Acclimating FW Ghost Shrimp (Specific procedure?)

Is there a specific procedure in acclimating FW ghost shrimp in a saltwater tank? How long does it take?

So they can live years in a saltwater tank (so long as they do not get eaten)?

Do they reproduce in a saltwater tank?

I am thinking of buying FW ghost shrimp for both my reef tank and my Kuda tank so the fish can have something to hunt. My Kuda have been eating Hikari Mysis, so I don't know if this is my best option (to offer live food). If not, what about the reef tank?

Aside from this, do you think my Kudas ate or killed my Peppermint shrimps? Both are dead. :( But they got the job done before they died. They did eat the Aiptasia that I saw in my tank. :)

THANKS!!!! :)

the longest i have gotten Ghost shrimp to live in Saltwater is 2 days.... BUT i didnt acclimate.. they were food for my Leaf Fish.. if properly acclimated they might live.. but i dont have experience with that.. also dont get your Seahorses to accostomed to eating live foods...that might be all they want anymore :) ;)

Agreed. Live foods as a treat once a week or so is fine. More often than that they may refuse frozen and hold out for more live, which you certainly wouldn't want to happen.

They can be totally acclimated to saltwater and will breed as saltwater animals. I don't know the specific procedure for this because I just buy the saltwater version to begin with. You can get them here: http://livebrineshrimp.com/
Just page down until you see "marine janitors". The larvae are excellent foods for seahorse fry at 6 weeks old or so.

I acclimated them in a 10g. Took out a dixie cup of fresh water, replaced with a dixy cup of salt water a few times a day for a couple of weeks.

I bought a dozen 2 days ago, and acclimated them shorter than regular fish, and they are still alive, and well. My capensis just aren't big enough to eat them yet...they try, but they can't snick them...

It must depend of species, but my local FW shrimp can be summarily dumped in SW and they will live indefinitely:cool:

IME they do not usually live more than a day, sometimes 2 at tops with no acclimation procedures.

I feed live daily and amny times there are shrimp that are to big to be snicked that go into the display. They don't last long.
