Acclimation and encrusting..

I know that you're supposed to acclimate your frag at the bottom of the tank for a period of time before moving it up, and then moving it up some more. My question is, with the time it takes to acclimate, the frag starts encrusting the plug. Do you guys then break it, essentially creating a new frag, before gluing it in it's final place? How long do you guys typically acclimate your frags?

I don't ever acclimate my SPS to light like that. They go immediately in the spot where they are going to stay. I have never seen this approach necessary with my HQI lights.

i agree with jda. i have had much better luck with placing in the final position then on the sand. i just raise the lights up for a few weeks.

I keep them on a rack off to the sides of my 400w MH lights. Once they start encrusting after 2-3 weeks i find them a permanent place. If you put them in a good location and leave them alone they will take off most of the time. Some corals grow incredibly slow so ymmv.

+1 as soon as I buy them they go exactly where I want them and never move them. I don't change anything, not even lighting
