i was just wandering when you feed your stomatopod liive food like snails or hermit w/e do you acclimate it them to the tank or juat float the bag in the water for a little? or just toss em in? im porbly gonna get my mantis in the next month or so (depends how the lfs rock shipments are) thanks for your help ,Chris

o i was also wandering if there are any pros or cons to the different methods and if there are what are they? thanks,Chris

It pro and con to just throwing the food in there is if it dies your shrimp might not eat it. But on the pro side it doesn't take up your time.

For acclamating the food it is the exact oppisite.

You are kidding, right? As long as your salinity is between say 1.023 and 1.025 (where it should be anyway) you don't need to acllimate hermits or snails. Just chuck them in, I haven't lost one yet. The fact that they are food make the question a bit silly. Unless you are putting a ton of these in at a time, your mantis is going to snack on them before it matters.

ok i was just makin sure for future refernce. and wasnt sure if the snails or hermits would die from shock too quick thak for yalls help,Chris

It is a good idea to acclimate your snails as you would any other animal if you intend on them being in the tank for a while. I guess that they are a good "vacation" food if you're not going to be around to feed the mantis for a bit. Hermits that are intertidal should be very tolerant to conditions and shouldn't neet acclimating. I've seen hundreds of Zebra or "Left-handed" hermits in tide pools barely larger than a salad bowl in blazing hot sun.
