a friend found those on an accro that wasn't doing well after a dip that killed the accro.
Are these accro eating flatworms eggs?

Thanks.

Pretty much looks like it. :( I'm surprised that your friend didnt find the AEFW's; that acro has been destroyed by AEFW's.

I should know by now not to look at these posts. Always gets my blood boiling thinking about these vile little acro vampires!

Those definitely look like AEFW eggs. I too am surprised he didn't see any of the flatworms when dipping. AEFW's are nasty little beasts. Good luck to your friend in treating his system. That frag is long gone. I would pitch it.

For the past few years I used to look at other peoples threads feel something similar...and deep down feel glad that I dont have them (feel bad for the people though)...and recently when I found out my tank has them...man my heart sank...I felt so angry...and then so devastated...

But thats the thing; this hobby is such a damn test...and those who ultimately have patience and take the time to do a bit of research can and do beat these bastard flatworms.

Can anyone guess what I did to the first ones I found? :deadhorse1: Replace the horsie with a flatworm...

Thanks for the replies. It is weird indeed that he wasn't able to find any FW on that piece nor on other ones that are not doing well.
He is dipping any coral that's not looking good and has yet to find a flatworm.
There was base recession first and then went up.
Any suggestions on how to move forward as he's got many accros in that tank?

He was doing Iodinated dips and then finally went overboard and dipped in freshwater to see what comes off.
I'm looking at the eggs pattern and it seems a bit different that what I see online??? so are we sure this is Accro eating flatworms?

AEFW can either be hard to identify in a dip if they are small, and it usually takes a lot to knock the big ones off the coral. The big ones are unmistakeable. Bayer and levimasole works great, if that is hard to find maybe peroxide just to confirm.

My experience has been seeing what starts as base recession and what appeared to be stn. This continued up the coral over a week or two. Upon close inspection of the underside of the coral I could see clusters of tiny black bugs moving about. Size would be about a pencil point or slightly larger. Definitely mobile. Removing the coral and dipping removed the live bugs and what remained were clusters of eggs as pictured by the op. I read a piece by Dana Riddle on them but I can't find that link. It was in Advanced Aquarist. I can't prove that the coral had them but that is the best that I have read that describes what I saw.

I have seen eggs like that left behind from acro eating copepods.

That is the first timebi hear of across eating copepods. I've seen some pods cleaning out failing accros but not ones that will eat healthy Accros.
Any links to any articles on those or can you share your experience and how you got rid of them? I haven't seen any copepods eggs ever and my understanding was that their eggs are either attached to the female body or released in the water?
