Accurate Temp Readings

What does everyone trust? I have 2 of the $2 glass thermometers in my tank...they are about 1.5 degrees different. My ACjr reads differently than those and my heaters are all over the map. For the 7 different things I have in my tank, they are all in a range of about 5 degrees.

Any suggestion? what does everyone trust? Is there an inexpensive high quality thermometer out there?

I use an Apex and a small digital one. They read about .5 a degree apart. Seems to me the glass ones are always all over the map. Also keep in mind your ACjr maybe out of calibration.

+1 same here. Reef keeper lite and digital one from the lfs. Always good to have 2 for comparison.

Although I rely on my controller for day-to-day readings, I use a small infrared thermometer for accurate measurements. They can be found at any auto parts store for $30-$40.

Just insert your thermometer or probe in a glass of ice water for about 15 mins. Should read just above 32 degrees. Just a simple way to see how close it is

i do what serpent does, i use my controller for the day to day and then follow up with a infrared one o got at sears for like $45. i also used the infrared one to calibrate my controllers temp probe. Works great...

Ok and dont tell my wife but to triple check everything i used the medical thermometer we use when the kids are sick and check their temps...my controller and the medical thermo were almost exactly dead on as backed up by the infra red...
