Acer's new build thread

yay - I think I got it that time.

Fetta- you posted just before I edited my post and got the second pic to post correctly instead of just a link.

First link is Fetta's 75 gallon, the pic is the basement - location for sump and filters, refugium, etc. a floor below the display.

Top down pic of 75 gallon with the holes in it.

How thick do you guys think I need the glass to be to cover those holes in the bottom of the 75 gallon? I have 1/4 inch glass , but not sure that is thick enough. I figure I will have the water level at about 18 inches deep - leaving 6 inches of " safety" in the sump area.

Fetta's 75 gallon with the overflow removed.

I would feel comfortable with 3/8" glass silicone downed with 2 circles of silicone (one near hole, one between that and outer edge of patch). I'd also want the overlap on each side of the hole to be at least the diameter of the hole, so the patch would end up being 3x the hole size.

Might be over kill but glass is cheap.

So today's project will be to remove the glue from the linoleum, and pull up the tack boards from the carpeting removed yesterday. Of coarse that was after the "honey do list stuff " already finished today = weeding, digging, planting, garden store, mulching, etc. SO, not sure I will actually get to anything today. Dam I hate getting old - no stamina anymore.

I did hear back From SC Aquariums and the tank is supposed to ship from California the second week in July. So , maybe the club picnic will be perfect timing.

Thanks Kevin, ya that is why I have not proceeded with the 1/4 in glass that I have.

hmmm now that's an idea. I will call u tonight - still doing yard work. I thought holidays were supposed to be for relaxing....

Does the custom 12" tall canopy look like the standard canopy? I wish I knew about the 12" canopy when I ordered my set-up.

Nice Acer! Following along. I just completed the plumbing and water test on my SCA 150 over the holiday weekend. So far I love the tank. Super pumped! Good luck with your build [emoji1303]

I've got two Tunze 3155 power heads and three full spectrum 125w Chinese LED's (went cheap on lights but I really like these things and have had them on my 75gallon for a year with decent SPS growth). My blueline 100HD return pump is cranking some good flow up from the basement through return nozzles as well. [emoji481]

ahhh - yes that pump is on my shortlist. Did you figure about 15 or 16 head pressure from the basement , and what type of actual flow do you think your getting with the Blueline pump- is it loud? type of nozzles?

The Tunze 3155 is a ATO = http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/tunze-osmolator-universal-3155-auto-top-off.html

Blueline 100HD/Panwolrd 250PS
Reeflo Barracuda
Iwaki MD70RLT or 100
Panworld 200PS/ Blueline 70HD

Can anybody make other suggestions for a return pump.

I can't, but Aquaworld has a panworld in it's used stuff. Saw it on Sunday, but didn't check the model. It did say magdrive though.

hmm.. maybe I will rundown there today. Even if I don't lend up liking it - I will have a spare. Maybe I will call first to see the model.

Called Aquaworld- rang about 10-12 times, then on hold but could hear the conversations ( so he never hit the hold button) - just laid down to phone. after a bout 5 minutes, I hung up. Retried calling= busy signal, 5 minutes wait, and called again and got someone and he said they had no used pumps. Oh well, glad I did not drive over there.

Sorry I meant tunze 6105 and I also got the tunze multi controller. I've got about 12 ft. of head from the pump manifold and the bottom of the tank and the Blueline100HD has more than enough push. It hums pretty quiet but it's not silent by any means. I'm really impressed with the pump though and I can't hear it running in the basement when upstairs. Using flex tubing and bracing the pump against a flat surface with neoprene sandwiched in between helped. Eventually I plan to build out the basement and I'll close in a "fish/sump" room. Not sure the exact flow... But I can regulate it via the gate valve on the return or the gate on the full siphon return for fine tuning. For example if I wanted my return nozzles to push more water I would just open up the full siphon a bit more and open up the return a bit more. I can show more detail later when I'm come in a quick video.

Super, thank u for pics and video. Great minds think alike, lol . You set yours up very similar to mine. Where did u get the flex tubing, is that the same as spa-flex? Did u modify the overflow or r u using the stock overflow? Your return pump is on the floor of the basement, or close to it, so you must have more that 12 foot of head pressure. Figure 7 feet to basement ceiling , 1 foot through to the main floor, 5 feet to top of tank, the I assume your splitting it to get return flow to both sides of the tank, so that adds another foot for the "T", then 90 degree bends to get the hose back into the top of the tank, right. So that adds up to 7+1+5+1+2= 16. That's what I am figuring for my head pressure.
