Achilles eating already!

Just wanted to share my excitement!

After losing my last Achilles in his QT phase, I obtained another recently, (much smaller) and within 3 days he is now eating flakes, NLS pellets and Mysis Pellets!!!

It all happened within one day!

I always keep Nori in the tank, he generally cruises by and picks the rockwork all around it. Almost like he's teasing me "Oh you put that there for me...Nope No thanks."

I noticed today he decided to try flakes, then I put in some NLS pellets and he tried one, then I tried mysis pellets and he hammered them down with speed.

Back to NLS and he kept chewing/spitting until he fully ate a few. Possible the NLS is more pungent/strong so he's not too sure.

Rinse repeat throughout the day a little at a time and now he's pounding them back. Not as fast as the regal or chevron in my DT, but for an Achilles that wouldn't touch any prepared food the past 3 days, including Nori, I'm super stoked. haha

Sometimes it just takes a bit of luck and time for them to relax I guess.

Afterwards, I went to my DT to feed, and for the first time the Cardinals were going nuts for flakes as well. Wooooooohoooooooooooooo

I generally only feed frozen Mysis for them as everything else eats NLS and Nori. Did not expect that!

That's good he's eating right away, congrats! They are one of my favorite fish and if I had a bigger tank, I'd have one for sure. As long as he's going in a big tank (200g+) with a lot of flow he will likely be ok. If they go in too small of a tank, they eventually feel cramped, get stressed, and stop eating (Which is why they get labeled an expert fish.) They will often times swim directly against your powerheads too.

Great news!! When you get a chance snap a pic of your new precciiooousssss, would love to see. Not have, thats your preccciooouuusss, just see is all.

I'm currently just starting to build the filtration on my 420 Gallon display tank, hopefully by the time his QT is up, provided he does well, He'll be the last put in during the transfer.

If not he'll have to hang around in the 180 bowfront for a few weeks.

I've been dying for a sohal, but the achilles takes precedent as I'm not confident the sohal will not go into savage mode. 420 is big, I don't feel it's big enough for a sohal. Granted maybe I just need to read more success stories. I feel erring on the side of caution and not getting one would be best.

Last tang to go in the 420 would be a purple. Then my dream will be complete. Chevron, Regal, Achilles, Purple.

The rest will be the anthias, foxface, cardinals, and other small fish. No angels.

LOL

I've been trying to take pics, but I broke the motherboard on my S6 trying to swap out the battery (awesomeeee) and I'm now back to my old terribad iphone 4S, so all the pics I've been getting are pretty much terrible. lol

I'll keep trying

Awesome, sounds like it'll be a sweet tank. Post some pics when it's all done.

You betcha, once I have a bunch of shots and I'm halfwayish through I'll start a build thread in the large tank section.

This way everyone gets a lot of eyecandy at the start.

I'm going to go all out on the filtration side as an experiment and log the progress.

Gotta love it when dreams come true! I finally have an Achilles/Whitecheek hybrid and he is without a doubt my favorite. I wish my tank was bigger because my local LFS has a tiny 2.5 inch Sohal that eats like crazy and has been at the store for like 3 months and it's under $150.
