Achilles Hybrid in QT

Why would you say Ionic is the best? Chelated and Complex copper are better choices with Complex being the best.

RBUI: All my fish have gone through Cupramine and I've never had an issues. But if you for some reason have had issues with Cupramine I can see your hesitation of not treating it and if he is doing well and shows no signs then just keep doing what you are.

Not sure why I had such an issue with Cupramine. Maybe my setup had something to do with it???? Can a W/D filter with Bio Balls along with a hang on filter have any negative effect on Cupramine?

I like Seachem products...But as you stated I am so afraid of killing another fish....I am just going to leave things alone and if he stays clean for another 3 weeks I will put him in the main tank.

I run W/D filter w/bioballs on some of my QT's so I don't see that being an issue. Only time I know there are issues with Cupramine is other meds, UV's, waterconditioners, dechloronators or other chemicals that react with Cupramine.

Yeah I know about all those other things.

A friend of mine told me something about the bioballs, but I forget what it was. I thought it had something to do with a high oxygen level and copper....Not sure...But if you are using them I guess that could not be the problem anyway...

I have not done any treatment on this fish other then PraziPro. I can't do a 100% water change but I can do 50% to 75% roughly. Copper scares me I have had bad luck with it recently. What type of copper do you use and what kit do you use to test it? I have a coulple bottles of Seacure laying around that are real old. I don't think that stuff goes bad and I think Seacure is the type of copper you are talking about.

I use the Red Sea copper kit which comes with a bottle of copper, Paracure I believe. It's old fashioned ionic copper. The test kit is also very easy to read unlike others. Dose until you are in the 0.2-0.3 range and maintain that for two weeks. Provided you don't go above 0.3, the fish will get through the treatment no problem.

Because it's more reactive, and as such more effective on the parasite, it reacts with everything, so that is why you need to test daily and dose accordingly.

Chelated and aminated copper are less reactive, which makes them easier on fish, but with that safety comes the caveat that it's easier on the parasite. It's nothing new that ionic is the best, it's been around for as long as people have been dealing with Crypt....

I have decided....I am just leaving him for another 3 weeks. No copper treatment just a 6 week QT. I check him every morning with a flashlight and he is clean.......

Good Luck! Hopefully everything goes well, that fish will be a great addition to your display.

Most toxic I would agree with, but best I wouldn't.

That's what I am doing with my 6.5" Achilles in a 40g QT. I think passive QT is the way to go to avoid subjecting the fish to unnecessary medications. But you do have to give them enough time in the QT for observation to make sure nothing develops.

Stay with it....

Hard to get a really good picture....I never clean the glass on the QT so its a little dirty...But here he is....or she is????
