Yes, you can physically do it, but will the results be good I will say no. All those tangs you mentioned will outgrow that tank within one year. Unless, you have a large tank already ordered, I would say no.

They will get too large and start attacking things, as well as becoming very suceptible to diseases due to stress. Do not do it unless you have a large tank already in the works.

How will a yellow outgrow a 6 foot tank?

Would just the Achilles be okay? I have very high flow and minimal rock

It's wishful thinking. I tried that route. My achilles was fine when he was 3 1/2", but once he reached 5" he became irritated by the tank size. I have mines in a 120 with open space at the moment. Every so often he starts flicking water out of my tank. I'm currently in progress of upgrading to a 225g that should up be in 3 months.

Okay. So your tank is a 120gal 4 foot long correct? My understanding was that they need length and not so much height so I figured he would be fine. How long did it take him to reach this size?

Started my 3 1/2" Achilles out in a 6 ft tank...that was 4 years ago, he's now almost 8" and we've upgraded to an 8 ft for him. Length is definitely important for them, as is water quality and flow.

Nice avatar your Achilles looks awesome. So do you think a 3 inch juvenile could live in a 6 foot 135 for 2 years until I can upgrade. I don't think flow or water quality is a issue as I have a gyre pumping 5000 gph and then I have another powerhead just for more flow. I just need to know if it would be able to spend 2 years in my tank? Also if I purchase a pre quarantined Achilles tang should I still put him in quarantine just to make sure he doesn't have ich or should I keep the stress to a minimum and add him to the dt

There is no such thing as a pre-quarantined fish.

Well we buy off a small fish store from a friend's home and when were brings them in he quarantines in copper for 2 weeks then sells them

In my opinion, that is inadequate. Worse if the dosage is less than therapeutic. If you do not quarantine, you should assume it is not quarantined.

So I should set up a quarantine and put him in it for a few days. The stress should cause him to show up with ich if he has it. If he does then what do you recommend I use. With my other tangs I've kept don't do very well with copper

We had ours quarantined for 6 weeks before he went into display. All of our fish in our display are 6+ years old so there is no way I would ever risk adding a fish without QT.
