Achilles Tank 6x2 or 5x3

in a couple of months it can go from 3.5" to 6-7" you do know that right? if it's in the right environment that will be an easy length to hit. and when once day you see it flick its' tail you can see how fast it covers a 6' tank. if you have the cash just drop it on an 8'(+?) ft tank right now - why end up paying a whole lot more for a tank you will need anyway?

Couple of years ... not months.

...

Wrong, I had one before I gave it away and it only took months. If you had one and it grew slow I don't know what to tell you. Mine was in a fowlr with tons of food so that might be why.

Thinking i'll just give the fish away and get a 180 for my current fish (in my 112). After reading the primer and the RC tang tank size, I figured a 180 would be good since I have just one other tang. While you guys certainly are not bullying me, you are guilting me into reconsidering.

There is just no way for me to get an 8 foot tank down my basement stairs and I plan on moving within a year away. I have 2 loveseats down there because I could not get a sofa down the stairs.

I gotta think about it a bit more. The first achillies I really became interested in was in a 112 (72x18x18) for many many years and it was in with many other tangs and a rock wall of SPS everywhere. Of course this was many years ago and the tank is no longer running and we know better these days.

what will keep this fish thriving more than most other things is surge action. i mean these fish will hover in it. snorkling in hawaii these fish were right there when the waves break over the reef crest, it was strong as heck you had to hold on tight or you would get slammed. the achilles would get pushed back and then swim right in back in on it.
pretty awesome to watch.

My first Achille's was kept in an 8' tank, and I wound up selling it after 3 years because it's aggression was off the charts. I had it in a 300 gallon, with mostly angels and butterflies. Once it hit the 4.5-5" mark in growth, it would chase and tail swat any and all fish that it viewed as competition for food. I would ever attempt another Achille's without it being in an 8'+ tank with more aggressive tank mates.

Yea just try selling it or something. I imagine it would be a great hassle to get a 8ft tank down into a basement. And removing a window wouldn't be ideal I think, especially that you are moving in the near future.
It's easy for many of us to just say, "just throw in a 8ft tank. you can do it!". It's different when you actually live there and have to do a lot of work and you aren't even sure if it can get down there.
Just wait for your hopeful Dream Tank :)

I'll never be able to add another fish with my Achilles, that's how aggressive mine is. He'll try to kill anything from wrasses to clownfish. He was added to the tank with a purple tang, clownfish and azure damsel that I've had going on 4 years now...and this is how the tank will stay :-) Thank goodness we have another large reef tank in our home office to acquire all of my other fish!

The Achille's I mentioned above was a Diver's Den fish that I put through a long and extensive QT. It was bullet proof the entire time I had it. The person I sold it to put in into a tank that had ich and it died, I was really bummed out to hear about it. That fish was so aggressive that it would even come after me when I would clean the tank. It drew blood from my hand and forearm on 2 separate occasions. That being said, they are still an awesome fish to keep, it was one of my favorite in the tank, and I miss it.

Have had five (maybe even six) and none of mine grew that fast ..... don't know what to tell you.

Achilles Tank 6x2 or 5x3

And for the record I've had 2 - one got big so it was rehomed and my second I sold it back to who I got it from. :). Didnt have to go through that many to learn a lesson....unless you gave/sold them away and they didnt die

Feed more frequently? Five? Do they even last in your care? Lol

 Been keeping reef tanks since 1988 (and fish only since 1982) - probably forgotten more than you know. I am skeptical of your claim - let's leave it at that!
