Acoustic Ceiling Tile

Has anyone ever tried using acoustic ceiling tile to reduce noise transmission from inside a stand to the outside? Anyone see any problems with this? I was thinking of using this product to line my stand. The tiles are listed as mold and moisture resistant:

In addition, does anyone see a problem with resting my sump on them? I thought that might reduce vibration transmission. I was also thinking about using hard rubber work out pads (the things that line the floors of weight rooms in gyms).

Let me know what you think.

I wouldn't see any harm in using them as insulation on the sides, but in my experience, ceiling tiles are fragile and messy. Every time you bump it, you'll end up with crap falling off it. Maybe you could get away with it if you're really careful working in your stand.

I wouldn't use it under your sump. They will crush under the weight of the sump. I doubt they will crush evenly, leaving you with an uneven sump. Hard rubber pads would be a better choice.

You can use the pink/purple insulation sheets you can get from any hardware store..
I agree with the crumbly mess with ceiling tiles.. They don't really do well with moisture either..

Or fix the reason its so loud anyways.. :)

i actually tried using Dynamat, which is typically used for noise reduction in modified cars. either from exhaust noise, or rattles and vibrations from oversized stereos.

it didn't have an appreciable difference. i would be interested if this stuff did.

Oh look at Mcgyvr...get's nominated to be reefer of the month and gets all cocky! Lol - kidding. I'm still setting up my tank so just trying to anticipate noise reduction!

Thanks for the replies. I will look into the insulation sheets.

As for dynamax...I thought about that but thought it would be too thin to make much of a difference.

I've always been cocky :artist:

Hopefully you chose a bean animal overflow and you shouldn't need anything.
It is DEAD silent when done properly vs others like herbie/durso that can be noisy..

well quiet pumps help too :)

dynamat will work well too and you just stick it on and done.
