acro crab? bad or good?

typically non-hairy crabs are good.

The things I look for in bad crabs are:

1) Hairy...if hairy, it has to go
2) Blue eyes, IMO all blue-eyed crabs are bad
3) Sharp looking claws, these are good for tearing tissue and eaitng polyps

ok 1 more question, i have these little tiny red spots but there are only 3 and they are very close to the polyp tips. are they red bugs? and can i treat them with something besides an iodine dip or watever, i would like to do this now and i have no access to any stores as it is 10:00pm. sry for all the questions....my first acro!!!!

I'd say they are red bugs and if you really don't feel like treating the whole tank I'd say let the frag suffer for a day in another container of water. Just because you can only see 3 of them doesn't mean thereare a whole lot more hiding. And with red bugs you treat them with interceptor.

if looking at them with a magnifying glass, are they yellow and red ? If so, then they are LRBs.. I will try to find the thread with the pictures and post it here.

1) How hairy?

2) Why blue eyes?

3) What about porcelain crabs and porcelain anemone crabs?

1) Emerald crabs have very hairy legs right? Maybe mine isn't an emerald... it's freakin huge, it's claw is bigger than my blackray goby now =( I think if I cooked it, I could get a good slurp of his claw meat.

2) yikes...

3) what about dull ones that look like clamps?

I personally think that in general if crabs are well fed they will be less likely to go after anything you like.

If they're starving or not getting something they need then it makes sense that they're going to try and get that piece of meat (or whatever) they smell in the tentacles or gut of a coral.

Any type of hair and it is bad in my book. Emrald crabs have been seen to eat SPS...just like a bad acro crab.

I don't know why bad crabs usually have blue eyes.....just in my experience they do.

I take no chances with SPS......an anemone crab is going to stay in the anemone, though. The anemone shouldn't be anywhere near SPS...so I see no reason why they can't stay. In my previuous post, though, I was talking about acro crabs, in general.

dull claws are used for eating algea, so those are good. You still have to be careful, though.
