Acro Crab, Good or Evil?

I love the bandit or masked acro crabs but, this one is different. I don't know if he lives as a parasite/predator or a friendly symbiosis type. He is very small about .4" in diameter. Kinda cute. I hope he is a good one. Anybody familiar with these?

Okay, after some research, I think this is a Trapezia rufopunctata. Still don't know if it is good and what types of corals it is hosted by, besides poccilopora. I have no pocci in my reef. Will it accept acro's, stylo, or Seriatopora's?

ya should move into anything it can "hide in" that is an amazing looking crab! I'd keep it as a sump pet even if it was evil.

It's beneficial. This is from mongabay.com
"The scientists showed the importance of trapeziid crabs by gently removing crabs from sections of the two species of branching corals on a coastal reef. This resulted in 50 to 80 percent of those corals dying in less than a month. By contrast, all corals with crabs survived. The nature of this common symbiotic relationship had not been recognized until this study. For surviving corals that lacked crabs, growth was slower, tissue bleaching was greater, and sediment load was higher. Laboratory experiments revealed that corals with crabs not only shed substantially more of the sediments deposited on coral surfaces, but also that crabs were most effective at removing grain sizes that were most damaging to coral tissues. These were the largest grains studied, those measuring two to four millimeters in width."

Well I set him free in my reef. I put him between a stylo and an acro. He climbed right into the stylo but, it was slightly closer to him. Very cute little guy. Seems to be a bit less active than my other acro crabs but maybe he is just getting acclimated. I hope that he can find a suitable coral for his long term health. I don't like pocci's so let's hope he can thrive in other SPS's.

that is a rad looking crab. i would feed him little tid bits of food every once in awhile to ensure his survival.
