twon8, im just curious how you could tell what species it is from a closer/clearer pic?

Probably the way the coralites grow is what he would want to see in a close-up picture.

is anyone on this forum trained in stony coral taxonomy? There seems to be several dozen people from this forum who are able to identify stony corals better than the leading scientists in the field. its amazing that people can even narrow down from pics an acropora to a few dozen possible species let alone know its exact species.

neither is that piece it is just positioned so .

It actually has a table type form. I will try to get a better pic of the whole coral.

That was just an assumption of whhat I thought he would say. I don't know anything about coral identifications nor do I think I do. I have heard people say that the coralite growth pattern can lead you in a way to narrow down the possibilities, and thats it. I guess I should have given the longer asnswer so some wouldn't get bent out of shape.
