I have mine up top directly under a 250 radium with strong alternating flow...it browned out and encrusted down, but has done nothing in over a year...it does have PE and every other coral are doing well.

I love how this coral looks. So is it obvious when you see one? I would guess to Id it you look for the fat branches and what else? I saw what I thought was one at a lfs but not sure how to tell.
Also why is this coral so much more expensive than the rest?

Here's mine it arrived brown and is coloring back up slowly
It's gorgeous green pink with orange tips nice big polyps too
Note the yellow milli above to the right for comparison
Ime it's doing very well for me

One of my favorites, often overlooked when people com over but I love this piece

No, definitely spathulata. It's much more smooth than papillare. I also seen it a long time ago in person and know it came from Aussie in the classic spathulata form. It has been in his aquarium for probably close to 2 years I bet which has probably brought on a slightly different growth form.

I wasn't even thinking of the growth form... I was looking at the coralites.... I haven't seen those sort of wrinkly coralites on a spathulata before.

That is what Im talking about. Look at wild millepora and than captive grown ones...it really affects the coralite structure. I've seen plenty of spathulata so I know what Im looking at.... of course you are welcome to disagree.

That looks more like A. papillare?

They are close. Acropora papillare will be much thicker than A. spathulata. The tips are shout and short.

On the subject of Acropora spathulata being an official scientific name, I do not believe it is yet. WoRMS describes A. millepora, but not A. spathulata. yet.
