acrylic nails or nail polish

I don't wear polish but my mother does and every LFS she has been to says "DON"T PUT EM IN THE WATER!". May wanna get more concrete evidence than this, but as a general rule of thumb, if your unsure about it, don't. Wear gloves at the least.

Many salons apply an antifungal solution to the acrylic nail to prevent infections, etc. I am not sure if nail polishes contain these as well. This could have hazardous effects on your tank. I second the recommendation of wearing gloves.

My wife gets her's done frequently so the rule is "keep your hands out!"

my sister has kept a great mixed reef tank for years without any problem. i believe she usually has some sort of nail polish on, and i know she is always messing with her tank without gloves, so i think it's probably OK. i don't think i'd try it with acrylics though.

Acrylic is inert, the cyno super glue they use we use in saltwater, and the polish is obviously non water soluble. Odds are no problem with a normal womans manicure.
