Acrylic Tank Bottom panel thickness

Can the bottom panel for an acrylic tank be thinner than the sides?

Generally speaking, yes, as the decks should be flat and reinforced, thus negating the need for thick bottoms. But if you're using 1/4" for the sides - no way I'd go any thinner on the bottom. Generally speaking, an 800 gallon tank should have something thicker than a 1/2" bottom, that kind of thing
