Acrylic tank owners. Question on 1 inch acrylic

I just got my quote back for my 40 gallon tank. He said he wants to use 1 inch acrylic. Does this sound right for a 36x18x16?

huh? Sounds way too thick. And I will ask the obvious, why are you having a tank that is $40 in glass, built?

I think it sounds way too thick also but I am not too familiar with acrylic.

I guess mainly because I am shopping for a new tank, and want to go rimless. My last tank was 30 gallons and I want to go a bit bigger but still be able to use my current skimmer, lights, powerheads, etc. So a custom acrylic tank is my only option for a custom dimension rimless tank.

I have a 100g tank - 60x18x22. Mine's got half inch acrylic. However mine has a top piece. I'm guessing its due to the rimless-ness.

Why in the world are you getting a tank made for 40g. Much cheaper to go buy a 40g breeder for $40 and call it a day.

Not unless you are trying to go custom.

But to answer your question, if your builder wants to use 1" for a 40g, you need to talk to someone else as that guy is clueless.

Edit: Read the whole thread :)

Check out glass cages for your tank.
