How many of you have acrylic tanks that do reef?

I thought i never would but thinking about it.

There is one for sale pretty cheap with the dimentions i really like.

no problems with scratching while removing algae, etc.

I have a 180 but would love to get a 225 since width and lenth are the same i could just use my same stand and canopy. then i could drill holes in back and do a closed loop and would get it reef ready!

Make sure that you use algae scrapers designed for acrylic. Also - for the magnet scrapers - make sure you don't have any sand underneath it. For the smaller scratches, you probably won't be able to see them when it is filled with water. However - you will be able to see any major scratches. Just be careful. There are a lot of people with gorgeous acrylic tanks.

I personally prefer glass tank because of less scratches.

I preferred acrylic because I had teenage boys always wrestling around in my living room. Also my rock work would occasionally avalanche. But due to a lapse in judgement on algae scraping, I have recently gotten some bad scratches in my 90 g acrylic.

I have 2 glass tanks in my living room now w no problems - but far less wrestling in the livingroom too!

If I buy another tank - the thought of a glass tank breaking still bothers me more than the thought of scratches in acrylic.

yep - you can drill holes in acrylic quite easily. Just use a standard hole saw bit. While drilling, have a constant stream of water running over the place that you are drilling. It may take a little while, but it is quite easy.
