Acrylic vs rubbermaid stock tank for sump

Still trying to figure out which to use on my system, so looking for advice. Sump will be in my basement and the main pump will be a reeflo hammerhead gold used to supply everything. As of now it will feed a skimmer, carbon and gfo reactor and the 210 display. Eventually adding on a ca reactor and frag tank. Either way i go i will likely have an external refugium to control the flow rate through it (probably divert some of the drain water through this)

Questions:
What is the optimal/minimum size sump i'd need to use this pump (does linear overflow size apply to baffle length in a sump?)

If i use a stock tank how do you mount a autotopoff float switch (pictures of your set up may help)

Which way is going to eliminate these blasted microbubbles!?!?

Any advice, tips, suggestions are welcome!

Micro bubbles I think can only be controlled by baffles and sponges, so for that you would do best in a prebuilt acrylic IMO.

This controls my bubbles in my stock tub.

I have a similar set up only difference is I have a 32 gallon brute trash can in the middle of my rubber maid sump I turn my out let from middle can to the back and I get no bubbles

As you can see a simple bucket and egg crate will "break in" with algae and the bubbles stay in the middle and never move.

i took a 6 gallon reef crystals bucket and put about 30 3/8 holes around the bottom. I filled the bucket with live rock rubble, the micro bubbles came to the top and the water out through the bottom. I was using a iwaki100rtl so i had pretty good flow through it.

Thanks sbabs,

Krylon Fusion Paint.....reef safe been using on my builds for many years:)

Lite coats with dry time between, i let mine sit for a week to allow finish to harden but not all do.

Best of Luck!

Nice Stock tank! Could you explain a little more about what's going on here? Do you drill the holes and plum through so you can cover, rather than just dumping in from the side? I like the drain- is that just to do a water change? Thanks! I was thinking of using my 200gal rubbermaid as remote DSB/sump as well... It would be plumbed outside my house for my 100g DT. My only issue is that I'm worried about rats out here in HI getting into it. SO far so good with the 20 gal I have. I was thinking of putting the 20 gal sump inside the 200g rubbermaid to skim out of and dose, etc. Maybe I'd need to cut a hole in it for overflow- like a baffle? Thanks!
