Mike, I think there is still a lot to learn about the pellets. As each week passes different companies are jumping on the pellet bandwagon (there is a lot of money to be made off of all of us). I might be working on a project to help clear some things up but it is too soon to comment on it. Honestly, regardless to some of the claims, I believe we are all the beta testers for the product right now. I will say this, if you intend on using them; start at 1/4 of the recommended dosage, soak them 24 hours in RO water (helps reduce floaters), have a way to control the flow into the reactor (needed once they start sticking), use the Michael's sowing discs on both ends of the reactor, monitor them atleast 2x daily to make sure reactor is not channeling, and keep an eye out for bacteria blooms. I have greater interest in the feeding aspect of them then secondary; the reduction of nitrates and phosphates. The pellets ability to pull down nitrate and phosphates to acceptable levels in our type of systems may be up for discussion or the actual volume of pellets required for them to do so, also including volume of bacterioplankton produced in the process.
