ADA 120-P + Elos Mini dual NPS tank journal

I think people are missing the fact this is "continues automatic water changing system" :)

I'm not missing the fact that it's a "continuous" system. According to the chart, the 9.5 shuts down with 14 ft. of head pressure. He's going up 9 ft. and doing a 50-ft. run. There has been no accounting of 90-deg. turns, but there has to be one or two. I'm just trying to make sure he has a pump that can deliver some water.

In addition, I don't think that the 9.5 handles head pressure all that well within its specs and that thin, ceramic impeller shaft is very much a weak point in the design.

have you ever seen an continuous WC system (you sure you are talking aboiut what I am talking about?) that used a Mag pump? I have not and I have seen dozens of these systems. All that I have seen utilize multi peristaltic pumps, one for input and one for removal. Just how would one do that with a Mag pump? You would have to do a snot load of fine tuning using various pump sizes. Even people using the LM3 with extra heads are having issues and that unit can be calibrated to account for that.

Well I know the odds of keeping this alive are extremely slim but I really want to see if the system I have now can support a blueberry gorg. I've had this for about a week now. The shipping was ROUGH on the corals this time. It was very cold out and one of the other corals I ordered (a dendronephthya) was practically DOA. Of course DD refunded my money for that coral when I let them know about it. Anyway this gorg has been developing super long tentacles. When I first got it they were short and stubby. You can still see some short and stubby ones.

I'll be updating this thread on how this gorg does in my tank.

I also finally got a true Tubastrea micrantha. It has been taking some work to get to open with the lights on. At night most of the polyps do open.

Heh, that photo reminds me of the old days when I was meticulous about cutting up the Cyclops. We go through a flat like that every week or so. Now instead of cutting, we just throw the unopened package on the ground as hard as we can about 5 times and then cut it open. Makes for nice small pieces, plus good stress relief. :D

Not trying to bugger up your thread anymore than it is Mike, sorry. But I have seen and used a continuous WC system as well. This is why I call mine a semi-continuous system, its a variation on a regular design. My idea fits my needs, it may not fit yours. Seems like there are many people on this site that if you dont do exactly what they have done or seen, you are wrong. I was just wondering if he was using a large external pump or something. That is all. Didnt mean for all this.

Mike,
I think you mentioned earlier in this thread or another thread (I looked, I'm blind) the source of your bulk frozen food. Can you re-post that?

Plus, what great fun to try the "Wandell Method" for creating feeding-sized chunks of food!

Thanks,
gary

But look at these beautiful squares. I don't have enough patience, I use a hammer on them.

 not trying to bugger it up more, yet you call some one out right after you write that? Of course I am going to have to reply

Technically using a mag pump for such a system would be a nightmare (fully continuous where you remove as much as you put in on a continual basis). That is why he's using a LM3. Sure a large pump would be great for doing a WC, I do that with my system, but I highly doubt for a true continuous water change system (1:1 input:removal 24/7) a Mag Drive would be of much good.

Does your system do 1:1 input:removal 24/7 or is your system just drain X amount, then use pump to pump pre-mixed water back into the tank?

So someone snagged the chironephthya from DD that I wanted right while I was on the phone with a live aquaria rep!

I ended up getting the larger, more expensive, and less healthy looking one. Hopefully I can get it into good shape. I have a black one that came in pretty bad condition that has been making a slow but nice recovery.

Congrats to the other chironephthya buyer, hope they are on here so we can keep track!

Well my order with the chironephthya & a feather star plus couple other things got delayed! Don't know if truck broke down or weather got it but wont make it today. Hoping every thing will make it after two days in bags in freezing weather.

Oh no that is horrible! What a shame. I am acclimating mine now as I type this. It is extremely cold here (below 20) and although the box was packed well with lots of heat packs the bags were still very cold. I hate shipping in the winter. I'm even hoping mine will be ok.
