Adam's 450 GALLON REEF TANK BUILD!

Im going with a BK SM, don't want to buy a skimmer in 15 years but don't know too go with the 300 or 250. I'm building a mixed 450DT would you recommend me which one!? Also do you like that Calcium Rx or would you go with another brand/model?

I swapped the calcium reactor for a doser. I like both methods equally. I like the calcium reactor because I am not constantly refilling anything like on a doser but I found that if I make a mistake with my dosage using a doser it is not as detrimental since it's more balanced using actual 2 parts. It's also nice to be able to dose magnesium. If going with a calcium reactor GEO gets my vote. As far as the skimmer you can go with a 300 although I did find that this sm250 is not way too over-sized for my tank like all my previous skimmers and I think that plays a big role in it's performance. The best person to discuss BK skimmers with is Jeremy from Premium Aquatics, he can point you in the right direction. I shifted some things again around today. I feel like I am forever moving things around to make this small closet feel bigger! Once i moved the sump to the right I was able to have the Carbon and GFO reactors dump into the refugium instead of directly into the sump. It's cleaner look but we'll see how goes because now my fuge has more GPH going through it. If the price on those ARID reactors gets more attractive I may turn the fuge into a frag tanks and run one of those for chaeto growth. I got some Black Friday toys too. I added a neck cleaner to the skimmer and my Tunze osmolator just stopped working, the sensor is shot so I ordered the smart ATO that BRS just started carrying. Still waiting on that thing. Here's a pic.

I added more actinic LED's from build my led. I was able to actually attach them to the 2 strips that were going along the length of the tank. Now I have actinics going around each MH pendant like the old VHO retro setups. I 'm a bit surprised because I added 5 more strips and they didn't add a drastic amount of blue just a little more pop making the look of the actinic photo period a tad brighter and bluer. I run 400 watt 20k radiums on Hamilton ballasts which over drive them, the color they put out with that combo is a crisp white with a very small hint of blue. These extra strips made it a little bluer which I really wanted. I also got some clams this morning from Live Aquaria.

I think given your recent announcement in my thread that you need an update here for everyone to see!!!!!

Ha! I don't have it yet. I wish I did!!!!!!! I keep stalking the tank builder. I text him almost every day. I even tried bribing him to push my build to front of the line!

The new one is 64 x 32 x 24 high rimless. They basically hold the same amount of water but the dimensions are so much easier to work on not to mention the stand is 12" lower and it's rimless so I don't even need a step stool for most tasks and when I do I only need one step. The old one had me going up 3 steps while still not having proper access to anything. I wanted to thank everyone on here that commented with help, crtique and ideas. Mods Please close this thread!
