Added a Male - Ocellaris (False Percula)

I read all the sticky and searched but I one question,.

A little background:

I have a 3 Year old OFP Tank raised in my 180. She was brought over from a 12 Gallon Nano about 10 weeks ago. She has been hosting on a Frog Spawn for about 2 years now.

I want to add a mate now that I have the room and want to quarantine (for obvious reasons). My LFS has a couple of Very small Tank Raised OFP Clowns, I assume the smaller ones are males....I only want (1) additional male.

So my question: Can a small Clown change to Female in the 4-5 Weeks in quarantine? My quarantine tank is the old 12 Nano. I still have the substrate in with a couple of Blue Mushrooms and GSP. I also have hospital tank (15 Gallon) in the basement currently not set up.......

Thoughts? Thanks Tom

Yes but only if they are mature males. Just get a juvenille and you will be fine. How big is the one your interested in?

He looks to be about 1.5" pretty small fish IMO. How can I tell if he is a mature male?

If it has all of its adult coloring but is still fairly small then it is a mature male. If it is in with a bunch of other small ones chances are they are tank bred juveniles.

Thank you for your reply. I'm going to go check him out a couple more times and make a decision.
