Added Kalk too quickly.... ph problem..

I've just added some Kalk to my system, and accidentally dosed it too quickly.... ie. enough to raise 50ppm Ca but dosed over about 3 hours!!!!

My PH has gone up to 8.81

What can I do??

A pH of 8.8 is not going to kill anything.

Accelerate your water change schedule starting today. Beyond 8.45, the solubility of calc and alk is increasingly hampered. 8.45 is the upper limit of acceptability, definately not the optimum pH.

If your pH is still elevated, you can add a small amount of seltzer water very slowly to bring it back down. Do it over the course of a few hours..

Enough to raise 50 ppm calcium is a raise of about 7 dKh! Was your alk down to a 1-5 range?
