Added salt too quickly

Soooooo yeah, the first bag disolved easily and the box was for 200 gallons and I said what the heck on pouring in the second bag. I planned on going easier for the 3rd to get it right after it circulated tonight but it looks like a lot of the second bag settled on the sand/dead rock. How long will it take for this stuff to disolve/what should I do?

Hi! Are you mixing the salt in the tank? Or in a separate container? What brand of salt mix?

Yeah in the tank, the waters been in there for about a day circulating. I just checked and most of the salt cloud had dispersed with the stuff on the sand easily dispersing when swept by a pipe. There is some white precipitate left though... Not sure how to disolve those chunks which may be dust I didn't get washed off the dead rock...

Salt: instant ocean reef crystals
Tank: 150 gallon with 55 gallon sump

Oh I gotcha.....you can try and siphon out the chunks...if you aren't sure if they are undisolved salt or something else. I use Red Sea Coral Pro and mix it in container....if your salinity is where you want it...I would siphon out the chunks....[emoji3]

The chunks are more then likely calcium precipitate. RC is known to do this when dumped in to fast(cold water to start with helps).

Next time add a little bit, let it mix for a few minutes, add a bit more, repeat until at your desired salinity.

This is one of the reasons I switched from RC.
