Addiction wins, 450 gallon system begins

So far I'm impressed with the OM revolutions:) It took a day and a half for my birdsnest to think so, but they are starting to open up again. They have definitely made more of a smart flow in the tank and I like how the particles stay suspended in the water column longer and make it to the skimmer. Definitely a worth-while purchase for those considering them!

Hopster! Sounds great. I just got my 4 Vortechs hooked up and still am playing with the program but they are cool too. Oddly enough, one of their selling points is that they are very quite and in an in-viewing room install that is probably true, but in my situation I can actually hear them more than if I was using CLs. They vibrate slightly and I can hear that on the viewing pane side but I cannot hear trhe Hammerhead running the return flow. Sort of bizarre really.

I have to run them on low for a while I think and figure out how the corals react. One of my more exposed clams looks like it is trying to fly...:D

LOL, flying clams. Sounds like something on the Adult Swim on cartoon network:)

Are the vortechs vibrating because of the acrylic thickness? Or can they be mounted on acrylic over .75"?

I am lazy too...

I believe I have the "spinning" problem understood. They are vibrating because the wet side gasket is too soft and traps air. Even when carefully placing them this happens and the air pocket makes the gasket indent into the spinning magnet. This creates heat and quickly softens the gasket to the point at which it adheres to the magnet and causes vibration.

Hmmm. Don't know what to say. I was hoping on trying one out after the controller becomes available.

Must be Four Twomp in FL!

Hop: I would wait even longer than I did...there are still some issues but Eco-Tech says that the controller module is scheduled for '07, so that is a long wait.

I started prepping the cabinet doors for paint today, but the primer is taking forever to dry. I hope this doesn't become a weekend project... I was hoping on getting the shop cleaned (again!), doing a big waterchange, cleaning the sump, scraping the viewing panes and cleaning up the system, and get the boat out on the lake to combat the 100 degree temps with a little wakeboarding and mounting lake swimming:)

That would work if I cleaned the shop before painting:) Otherwise I'm afraid it will kick up all the dust... I guess I got lazy:(

Actually I got 2 coats on all the cabinet doors and then I decided that I wanted to build some faux doors on the left side panels that hide the overflow and plumbing. So I guess I'm not as done as I thought. Hopefully I'll have it done DONE tomorrow...

The doors are installed! I just need to finish the two faux doors, nail the base board and cut and paint two last pieces of trim:)

The end is in sight:rollface:

Stocking might be a little while. I may add a few more zoos, bright softies and some LPS, but I have a wetroom addition before any serious stocking. I also need to get out with the wife and kids some more this year before she leaves me:D

I'm going to upgrade my return pump to something that puts out about 200 more GPH. Then I'm going to T off of it and have a loop where the Ca reactor, rowaphos, carbon and possibly a UV (not sure whether I'm going to use ozone or uv yet) are utilized, then pumped through a prop tank and back to the sump.

I don't know if I'll be adding any more fish until I shell out some cash for a Deltec, new Euro Reef RC w/ eheims or an H&S skimmer. I think that anymore would push beyond the abilities of my current skimmer, but I'm not sure:)

I think I would like to add a few other tangs or a group of anthias... But I'm still window shopping!

It's called the OT fund:)

Soon as this leg is done, hopefully tonight... I'll go back to working extra shifts for a few months. Once I have enough for the wetroom mod, I'll order the parts and take some time off. Then when that's done, I'll work extra shifts for the skimmer. Then hopefully I can take the winter and worry about aquascaping:cool:

I actually did move my GSPs today to a small rock island I built so I could control their spread. They spread 1.5" in the past ten days covering the rock they were on... I think they like the kalk drip:)

Thanks Nexdog! Nice to see you visit again:)

OK, I watched a show on global warming which slowed progress... But...It's Done!!!!! except a bit of touch-up paint here and there. Including the shelf in the wetroom and I finally painted the cabinet in the wetroom to match;)

Now I have to get the couch and stuff cleaned off so I can actually take a picture from in front of the tank:)

But first I'm going to start cleaning the shop so I can have that done before 1:am...
