Quick question: I noticed the other day that a few fingers of my devil's hand were dead and about to fall off. I can't tell if it was possibly something that happened during shipping or if something is wrong. The rest of the coral looks really healthy, or I think it does.

If you look to the bottom left, the back of the leather, you can see the two fingers dangling. It does not seem that there are any others that are effected. Should I be worried, or is this OK?

I hope so, I really like the looks of this coral:)
Here is a better pic of the affected area:

I'll keep monitoring it over the next few days.

I also forgot to post above the plans for the inside of the tank. I prefer a tank that does not have the "Applecart" look and really like channels and places to take your eyes. I found myself really drawn into weatherson's tank and decided to go a similar route. So I fired off an e-mail to Capt. Jer and he put together a little package of base rock for me. The basic idea is what you see here, but he added about 20-30 lbs of smaller rocks to throw in. I also plan on about 50-70 lbs of live rock to seed what you see here!

Who is capt jer, i am looking to get some base rock, maybe he can help me out? Can you let me know?

A little bump for people to see my devil's hand, pictured above and let me know if there is a problem I need to try to fix:(

LOL. I'm just worried about it being diseased. I haven't been getting home until nearly lights off time lately during the week and am afraid I would lose the whole thing this week if something was wrong.

The front seems to be doing really well, but the back, I just can't see. It just seems like the back side just isn't extending like the front...

It should be getting good light... I'll check on flow when the lights kick on... I was going to do some modifications to my work truck, then this afternoon I was going to do some scraping anyway:)

James from Envision gave me some tips on getting my scratch fixed, so I'll be ordering some fix-it parts for that this week:mad:

How come this thread is not in the large tank forum? Nice set up by the way.

I didn't think it was all that big:lol:

JJ. Thanks for the comment! Actually when I started this I only had a few months of experience with SW and pretty much zilch with a reef. I knew my way around the shop and the construction was not a big deal... But As far as some of the fine tuning and other issues directly related to SW and reefing, I needed a bunch of help. I started a thread in the large tank forum, but it was not getting the views and help I was hoping for, so I started this one. I have to say that it worked out perfectly and I got a ton of help along the way. In fact, I'm still in need of a bunch of help:D

Without the members here in the RC reef discussion forum, I doubt the tank would be where it is today, if at all. It's going a lot slower than I wanted, but all and all, I think I have learned a ton at a quick rate and still have a ton left to do. I just hope that I never stop learning and this thread remains informative and inspirational to those that read it. I mean heck... If a guy with a low paying job, two kids and three dogs can do it, anyone can;)

At least my wife doesn't call me crazy to my face... She waits to share that info with her coworkers!

Slow and easy, that's the way to do it...oh, I just popped in 3 more frags...and I still don't have my vortechs!

dgasmd has been a big help to me for sure. Straight answers from a practical point of view. :)

Your Devil's Hand is totally fine, and will continue to do that as it feels the need. If you have more rockwork under it for it to attach to, I think it won't frag itself as much. Mine drops pieces all the time, and I give them away often. There must be 10 babies in my tank right now, in addition to the main coral.

Thanks Melev! Before I had one here saying it was fine and one in the softies section saying it was bad... I'll just go back to keeping my water happy and enjoying the show:lol2:

In my own thread, I just posted a closeup of the right side of my tank, and that coral is pretty dominant. Take a look when you have time, and you'll see the bare spot where it is fragging itself. Again.

Yup. Makes me think I might be able to get a few more going in the tank, or at least I hope so. I like this softie and well.... I know that the tank is kinda boring right now:)

I am sitting here getting my fish that have been in the q-tank acclimated for the big tank... A couple more hours and they will be happy to get out of the bucket and stretch their fins a tad:fish1:

Alrighty then... Well the tank now has seven new critters and everyone seems to be doing well. They are already eating:) At least the chromis are, the blenny took off so fast, I have no clue where he went.

The tank is so much more enjoyable with the additional movement!
