Okay, I looked at almost all the pages of this thread. The tank itself has barely been up for 2 months. Your skimmer isn't adding a lot of humidity to the air, but it is adding some.

Your sump, the large refugium, the RO water container and the mixing vat, as well as Quarantine are adding a lot of surface area for evaporation. Putting covers on many of these sections will help, but at the same time they will trap heat.

Does the room itself have a vent fan to suck moist air out and send it outdoors or out via the attic and out of the roof?

I sent you a PM about some other stuff that is compounding the situation... I have not given up, just if the whole thing goes, it could save some major issues in the near future.... I'm still going to work on the problem and hope for the best, but if someone else out there can give the boys a good home, I'll downsize until later:D
 
Also, if you really want to wait then why not keep the tank and the equipment? Then when you are ready again you have a good head start.

So is it the humidity or the new job that is making you rethink? The humidity issue can be easily addresses if you frame in the tank and have some fans and a window. In these days of wonderful automation you don't need to be looking after your tank 24/7. I just hate to see such thought and hard work get put on ice indefinitely....
 
The possibility of the new job is #1. I have about a 90% chance of the switch... Then I would be gone for 6 weeks after the first of the year and 3-4 weeks in mid year. I live three miles south of the middle of no where and there is no one to help with the tank... The wife can feed and empty the skimmer, but anything else and it's like pulling teeth:) JJ (since she reads this thread)... Then the amount of commitment on the new position would be tough.

So this is what it breaks down to... if someone wants to take the whole system and give the boys a better home than I can give them for the next few years at a seriously reduced price, I'm good with that. Otherwise I'm going to work through the issues and hope for the best.

But if I do get the new position and am gone for several weeks with limited contact, I may need a couple really really REALLY patient RC friends who would be willing to give their numbers to my wife and help out if anything were to go wrong:D
 
That shouldn't be a problem. We've done the same for husbands and wives with spouses serving in the military, and were able to help them maintain their tanks well. The person would return home to be happily surprised and impressed what their mate had learned during their absence.
 
That humidistat is pretty cheap on that page. I thought those cost more like $80 each. $36 sounds great to me.
 
Glad to hear about the job. I'm not so glad to hear about tank. Marc is right about spouses stepping up to the plate during deployments.
 
Not to call BS on you, but I can't imagine that just humidity is causing you to bail. Your set up was/is totally sweet.

oops, when I hit reply, a bunch of other messages showed. Like 6 more! Strange. Anyway, I cannot imagine that reefers wouldn't help you. You may be in the middle of nowhere, but you would be surprised who is around you. I had a buddy over who is a software guy, but turns out he is an "ex" marine biologist, and went insane over my tanks.

We are in a backwoods county in some respects, but there are 3 guys here that manage tanks "professionally". The other thing you could do is to get an ACIII Pro and hook it to the internet. You could check on all vital statistics from anywhere you are and use that info. to coach your spouse. Also, you could easily hook up a camera and view the tank as well.

I know that's not the same as being there, but it might make the separation easier. Try to work it out man! You put in a lot of hard work and it scares me to think you would bail. I don't want that negative energy HOP!

Anmd what Nexdog said, "why not keep the equipment"? You could ship it to me and I will keep it safe for you. You can have it all back when you need it, and I won't charge you any storage fees!:D

No play at all on the FOWLR idea? What happened? Did you get a couple of electricity bills and crap your pants?:D

LOL. Actually what scares me is that the billing statements used the same KW hours as last year. I know this can't be right and I'm worried that this month or next month someone will actually come out, read the meter and charge me for the difference of several months combined. Would scare the cheetos right out of me with a surprise $500 electric bill right before Christmas:eek2:

Are you on the electricity "averaging" program? Out here they have some sort of electronic device that they just point at the house and it records automatically, so we haven't had any reading errors in about 3 years. I wonder what else that device "reads"? We had a reading error a few years ago that just about gave me a heart attack.

After I get these 3 1000W MH lamps going I am sure I will get a "knock & talk"...this area is famous for pot growers. Our tiny town has a complete narcotics system with dogs, a boat, etc. and the County has a whole set up as well called WestNet. The boat thing is funny because the town doesn't have any more than about 1 mile of shoreline that is a very small bay off Puget Sound. It's mostly silted in and there is no one under the age of 55 owning any of the waterfront homes.

It's a good thing I own a respected business in town and everyone knows me or I would have helicopter noises above the house every week!

I go one of those surprises last month. They had been estimating mine and then took a reading. $400! Hence I tore down the 29 and consolidated. I can't afford 2 tanks!

I hope you are able to stay in HOP!

does it help if I know the DPA that runs WestNet? her partner works in our office and they are both a hoot! They said the same thing to me when I went looking for seized grow equipment so I could try and save some money. Most reefers would freak if they saw the property room that our task force has(TNT). Filled from one end to the other with ballasts with the cords cut and Lumenarcs as far as the eye can see. :eek1:
 
FWIW, I have condensation on my windows every winter. I had it before I even had my 75g tank. Newer homes are so tight these days that there is no way for the humidity to vent out.
