Adding a floating surface skimmer

I am looking at whether I can add this device -

I am thinking I can add it to the intake leg, so the pump will draw water from the surface as well as th bottom of the tank.

Thoughts?

Fair enough. I don't know exactly what the original intention was for this device, maybe as an add-on to a syphon for a sump? But, other than finding a way to fit it, with whatever diameters the couplings and pipes turn out to be, it seems like it might work. Might need to finesse the balance between the two intakes. Of course I might just use it to surface skim only. There's enough flow to circulate the water between bottom and top of the tank anyway.

Yes normally there is a sieve at the bottom that can be opened and closed to balance surface and base water, like this one:
