hello out there. i am thinking of getting a Leopard wrasses. i have a lubbocks wrasse in a 20gal reefed out QT. he has been in there for aobut 40days now. after looking into the care of the leopard i think i can give one a good home. the thing is i know about there eating issues and would like to put the leopard in the 20gal for a while before adding him to the main tank. fat'n up a little. the main tank is 72X18X20 productive 45gal refugium 150lbs rock couple inchs of 0.5-1.5 grain sand bed. anyway i am thinking of either putting the lubbocks in the main tank and QT the leopard in the 20gal then add to the main tank. or i could add the leopard to the 20gal with the wrasse and add them togather in a few weeks. any thoughts???

Is your 'reefed out' QT full of pods and/or forams?
It sounds like it's time to move the Lubbocks to the main display.
If a QT doesn't have natural Leopard fare (pods etc.) in it I would not QT a Macropharyngodon in it.
Incidentally- it shouldn't matter which order you add those Wrasses to the main display.

I think your going to have to add the Leopard wrasse to your main tank since their diet is as specialized as a mandarin and need live food from live rock and sand and the 20gal will not provide enough food for him. I have 12 fairy wrasses and 1 red coris wrasse and have never seen them bring in any disease...I have never seen a fairy wrasse with ich either but that could be only my fish although they are in the same tank as my tangs and they got ich when I put them in the tank. They cleared up and are disease free now, but I have never seen a fairy wrasse with a disease. That could be just my fish though, I never quarentined any of my fairy wrasses and they have been going strong for almost 3 years now. lubbocks are some of the most laid back wrasse you'll find, there are tanks on here wher the person has multiple males in the same tank.

I won't say that QT is a bad thing but I'd have to agree that most Wrasses are extremely disease resistant.
i agree with that. i only want to QT him for a couple weeks. so he does not indroduce anything. but, more so he can eat with out being bothered. that and just to hummm sturdy him up some. the 20gal is loaded with pods and things. even with the lubbocks wrasse being in there the past month. that little tank has been going over 5 years now. no worries on food. can always scoop some pods and mysids from refugium. think i will do that anyway.

I got a leopard wrasse, about 2.5", off liveaquaria.com a few weeks ago and introduced it directly into my 29 gallon that had been running for a good month fallow. So far its heartily eating frozen mysis shrimp. I think you have a better chance of these guys accepting frozen foods than mandarins. You just got to give them time to adjust without stress inducing, and food competing, tankmates. Good luck...
that what i was thinking. i heard the same thing. as long as it starts to eat prepared foods they are pretty hardy. why i am thinking of keeping it in the 20gal for a couple weeks with a clown goby, to teach him to eat. just not sure about the lubbocks going in the main tank for that few weeks then adding the leopard after.
