Adding a sump.

I'm going to be buying my buddy's 75g that crashed, he lost all his fish, but somehow both of his nems are still alive. He has this tank setup sumpless, however I want to add a sump. I'm kind of confused oh how to do that with the nems though. I have a spare 55g tank with a coralife t5ho fixture on it. Should I clean and leak check that tank, drain the water from the 75, move all the equipment to the 55 and set the nems up in there while I drill the 75 and build my stand and sump? Or does anyone have any other sugestions? I'd keep the 55 bare bottom if I did it that way and since all the equipment is off the 75 and most of the water would I not avoid the risk of cycling the tank and killing off the nems. Thanks in advance!

Usually if you connect a sump, even one with a brand new uncycled live sand and cured rock fuge, the system won't spike ammonia if the main tank it's connected to is live and cycled---because the bacteria in the main tank are handling the problem, and the bacteria are just quietly colonizing the new sump. It can also work in reverse, if you have a well-developed cycled sump with plenty of rubble---it can handle an uncycled tank if the sump is large AND well-developed and healthy enough. It's a little bumpy and you have to test, but yes, it can work. The main thing those nems are going to want is light. Lots of light. Go to the anemone and clown forum and get info on species, care, and cautions.
