adding an additional skimmer ????

i am thinking of adding a tunze nano skimmer to my 90. i already have an aqua c urchin pro in the sump of my wet dry. it works ok, but i want some surface skimming also. i know the tunze is only rated up to a 52 gal tank, but it will be in addition to the urchin. i am very limited on space in my sump, so i chose the urchin. i don't want an hot skimmer because i would have to modify my canopy too much. what do you think about this.

just buy one skimmer that will be good enough for your tank, doesn't have to be insump, there are many out there, its better then having two pieces of equipment that do the same job.

what are some good stand alone ( outside of sump skimmers )?

There are many, search around the web and see which one will fit snug in your stand, then ask around if its a good skimmer.

personally, i have not been impressed with my tunze skimmer performance at all. thank goodness i got a used one for only $50 and not full retail.

for a small effective in sump skimmer...try a euroreef or coral life super skimmer.

as for having more than one skimmer...i am a true believer of this.

i have each skimmer to pull out different levels of skimmate.

the becket is set for really wet, the larger er for dry and the smaller er for stuff inbetween. in addition, there was literature that different skimmers seem to pull out different stuff as well.

yes, having enough sump room for three skimmers is a luxury, i know, but if you can have two different types of skimmers...go for it!

I agree with you on the euro reef, but I will stay away from the coral life. I had the Coral life and my water still smells bad... after I put an aquac urchin pro in it, it had skimmed out more skunk than the coral Life did for months.

ASM are very good in sump. cheaper than euroreef.

I am running an ASM g3 in my sump 24/7 It works very well. I also use an Remora pro on my refugium at night. It also works very well. The Remora skims fairly wet , The ASM fairly dry. It works pretty good for me.
