Adding another clown??

I have 2 fish in my QT so this won't be happening for a phew weeks.

I have been curious if I can add another ocellaris clown to my 55. I have one in there now that is about 1.5in long and I have had it about 2 years. It's a pretty aggressive little guy. I'm also curious about it's coloring. I was told the darker the color the meaner the clown. Is this right? My current ocelaris has an orange belly and it turn to a brown on it's back. Should I catch it and trade it in and get a pair of youngsters??

You can add another Ocellaris, I found either try to find one that is much larger or one that is much smaller. Here is pic of the Ocellaris that I pair up about 2 months ago in my breeding setup

Never heard that one before. Pigmentation is the result of genetics and may be affected by environment and interactions with anemones or corals. Can't imagine what it could have to do with temperament.

In any event, you should be able to add another occelaris as long as it's a juvenile that is significantly smaller than your existing fish. After being alone for so long, your fish is probably a female. Get the smallest one you can find and you should be fine.

your little guy is prolly a little gal by now, get a small juvi.

in my ocellaris pair the female got dark on her back but my male stayed solid orange. so maybe it's a gender thing, never really thought about it.

Thanks nicodim! I've had the female for about a year and a half and the male a got a couple months ago. The male is from a local breeder who feed Reed TDO (Top Dressed Otohime) which brings out the red coloration.

That's awesome digging the brightness:beer:

I guess here is another thought.... Can I add something fancy like a snowflake?? Will it get along with a regular ocellaris? I probably won't but it's a curiosity?

You could pair it up with a snowflake. They are the same species. Just make sure to get one that is significantly smaller than the one you intend to pair it with.

You can add any variety of occelaris. A percula may also pair up. Your fish is not likely female and may even have stayed a juvenile. A one inch occelaris would be best, whatever color pattern you want.

At 2 years it could be a female, safest bet is add one smaller, and it could be either percula or occelaris.

You might want to add an ocellaris. If you ever plan on selling the offspring, some people don't like mixed occelaris and percs.
