Adding Sand to a current sand bed?

Can i add sand to an existing sand bed? THe main reason is beacuse ive accidently vaccumed out sand in the past doing water changesa nd gravel cleaning ive sucked to much out...can i add new sand into the tank? Would that do anything bad?

depends on how much i always add a small amount at a time and clean it good first

I did this recently. I just rinsed it really well with ro/di water, and then scooped the sand in one of those disposable gladware containers. I put the top on, stuck it in the tank, and opened it back up, allowing the sand to slowly spill out of the container. No sand storm

yeah i just added some really slow cleaned it really well

Both good tips. I used to it just like that all the time. There is a risk of problem algae blooms with the addition of silicates into the water column. Red slime, as I recall aka cyanoalgae, loves the stuff.
