Adding second clown?

How would I go about adding a second clown? The one I have is a few months old from the LFS bought two at the same time but one clown started to fade in color and died (the one that is still alive was a bit aggressive towards it)

Unless you are attached, trade it off to someone else, and get two new ones.

I thought it wasn't an issue as long as there was a good size difference in the new one added? Preferably add a smaller one?

Try introducing a clown that is a bit bigger than your current one, that's how I got mine to pair up.

Well if one is already switched to a female but has not grown large, yet because they were both teenagers, then it is hard to tell. If you introduce an obvious female, because she is bigger, then you are off to a deathmatch, if you are not careful.

So if you have to do it, then do it young before they have a change to assign the sex.

Safest is to add a smaller one, preferably an inch and a quarter or less to assure it is still male or unsexed, and intro in a floating breeder cup.

I have had success with adding a much smaller clown. My larger clown is 8 years old and lost its original female mate 2 years ago. I assumed he had "turned female" as the lone clown fish in the tank. 2 weeks ago, I purchased a new, much smaller clown. No aggression has been observed and they hang out together more and more. They even started being hosted together by a large leather coral, although the small one instantly moved to the GBTA I bought yesterday. The larger clown is still considering if it wants to join the smaller one in the GBTA (although to be fair, the anemone chose an awkward place for the larger clown to access...hoping he comes out soon so the large clown has easier access to join the smaller one!).
