Adopt-a-mantis

I had a few minutes the other night and I too was looking at an ID. I did not go through every species listed but I too thought that it was a G. smithii because of the meral spot and the red in the tail. Do you have anything from the Pacific such as a frag?
If the animal has been with you that long it much have been pretty small when it was first introduced into your tank.
Post an ID question in the forum and see what others think.

I will bring a different container on Friday. It would be cool if it was a smithii though.

I just wanted to thank you again for the mantis. It is in the tank hiding but it came out of the pvc when I got it home.
I showed my daughter it and Madison asked, "Is that for me?" and said, "He's so tiny!" so I have a feeling that it is staying at home. She feeds the peacock occassionally and she feeds her gold severum. It will be one of her jobs. My son just pointed and laughed at it.


Oh and Lord V. is now named Cleo. With a name like that clean up crews everywhere should not live in fear any longer. Well almost.

FWIW, everyone, there is a mantis at the Aquatic Critter. He's about 3.5" long or so. Couldn't see what species as the tank lights were out.

My thanks to you for taking Miss Cleo off our hands! Despite the havoc it wreaked in our tank, neither I nor my wife wanted to euthanize it, but we also didn't want to keep it, so you saved the day.

In our tank, it drilled a pretty significant network of tunnels in the live rock, so you might consider giving it some sizable pieces to play in, within the size constraints of the tank, of course.

I don't know if I'd have a young kid feeding it, especially if she's feeding by hand as you say you do with the peacock... but that's your call, obviously. Some of the stories I've read would make me nervous about that.

Ok on the rock. This morning it is just hiding so I figure it will take a few days for it to venture out.

As far as Madison she only feds using a skewer (I am holding it too). I would not want something that she is fancinated in turn into something negative. There was a thread about hand feeding and several people do it even though Dr. Roy does not think it a good idea.
She will use a skewer on Miss Cleo as well.
