Advice needed...

Recently we purchased a Goniopora sp. from the LFS. It didn't "open" back up until the day after we put it in our tank. It appears to be tempermental, as any heavy steps or setting bottles on the stand cause it to "close." I have read that they are difficult corals to keep, but they do best with manganese and iron supplementation. Any suggestions? Also, two days after adding the Goni, our Anthelia sp. started shrinking and turning a purplish color. I can say this freaked me out a bit. I have also read something about soft corals and stony corals not doing well in the same tank. The water parameters are good and everything else in the tank is doing fine. The tank has been set up for 8 months and I've had the Anthelia for 7 months. Any advice would be well appreciated.

get the stony upwind of the softie...such as you can. Softies are chemically aggressive and send stuff out, much like a neighbor who cooks with garlic. Put it where it can't breathe on the stony, who can't move. And keep it out of range of the stony's sweepers. I keep both in the same tank, even palys, but monitor behavior carefully to make sure how the wind is blowing.

Thanks, Sk8r! I will do that. An update... Yesterday evening, the Goni started coming around. It is fully opened up today. The Anthelia still is not doing so well. The part that was retracted and purplish has extended slightly, though still that dark color instead of its regular pinkish. The other part of the Anthelia has started retracting and now all of the polyps are the same length, though the second part is still maintaining rather "good" color. I'm scheduled to do a water change today. I also bought better lighting, which I think may be one of the reasons for the bouncing back of the Goni, so I thought that I would do some moving around in the tank also. Once again, thanks for the advice!
