Advice on 300 gallon tank purchase

My wife and I are looking at purchasing a 300 gallon tank (96" w x 24" d x 30" h).

For an acrylic tank (3/4" thick walls), what price range would be reasonable? With stand?

If this isn't the correct forum to ask, I would appreciate if you could direct me to the right one.

Thanks in advance :)

If youre buying new, Im quessing around 2000 to 2500 for the tank only. I was looking at a 540g (96x36x36) and it was around 3400. This was a couple of yrs ago so prices may have gone up.

Just go to glasscages.com and look at prices that will give you a very rough idea for both glass and acrylic as well as stand and hood prices.

I paid $1,500 for a new envision acrylic 300 tank. You will typically find used ones for less. If buffed would look new.

Where did you purchase the envision tank from?

I decided to get a quote from ******* directly - 3/4" thick glass, rounded corners, MarineReady (includes pumps, bulkheads, plumbing, 4' long sump, etc.), 20" high canopy, and 30" tall oak stand for about $4300. I'm suffering a bit of sticker shock right now.

Give Krittertanks.com a try and ask for a quote. They are located in Palo Alto and they make some of the finest acrylic tanks. Their tanks are built like Sherman tanks and you will not be disappointed.

A few months ago, I ask for a quote for a 125 standard, and it came around $800.00.

I've seen their tanks in person and they are quality tanks for sure.

This sounds about right for a glass tank with stand and canopy. If you wanna go acrylic I'd also suggest giving Gen a call at Kritter. He's in Menlo Park. He built my sump for me and it came out killer. I'd definitely go with him if I decide to go with him for my next tank but leaning more towards starphire glass. :)

Thanks for the replies :) After adding the canopy and stand for the MarineReady version, fishtanksdirect is 1K more and doesn't include the 4' long refugium. Hmm....maybe the price I got wasn't so bad after all; it's still quite a chunk of change though.

Actually, that price is for an acrylic tank. Does it still sound about right? I sent an email to Gen with the basic specs but haven't received a reply yet. Thanks for the recommendation!

Try Midwest Custom Aquariums. They have very competitive pricing and a great reputation. Check the vendor experiences forum here for reviews on them and any company you are considering.

Also check James at Envision Acrylics. He has a stellar reputation here on RC. I think he's a little more expensive than Midwest but the shipping might be cheaper for you since you're on the west coast.

When I bought my tank from that place in Phoenix Arizona they were alot cheaper than everyone else and the service was outstanding. The guy I worked with even split the shipping cost with me. Fishtanksdirect sells the same tanks just with their mark-up.

Keep looking on Craigslist I just got a used 300 gallon Lee-mar plus 100 gallon sump plus pumps skimmer etc. for 1350 from a great guy who was upgrading to a 600 gallon. good luck
