Advice with Kole Tang/QT

Awesome. Hope it goes well with the Kole. I'm sure LA will take care of you on the coral. They have awesome customer service IME.

They took care of it - just credited the difference in price on the coral to my account. All of my livestock came from LA/DD - I'm a big fan. :)

same here. the only fish in my tank not from LA/DD are the 2 clowns and the royal gramma i started with a couple of years ago.

how big is the tang? nice color? can't wait to see pics!

He's a little guy - about 3". Looks like he's just out of juvenile coloration, so he's not super colorful. I'm glad he's small, as most of my fish are small right now. Largest fish I have is my foxface, and he's a little more than 4" long (and seemingly equally wide :)).

I have a small Kole tang I got from Divers Den the beginning of December, he has gone through tank transfer and two treatments of prazi pro. He eats everything and another 2 weeks will go into the display. I started to feed nori sheets and mysis also spectrum pellets, he eat them all. I QT all new fish and do tank transfer and prazi pro on all fish then observe for at least 8 weeks.

i guess my kole tang never got the memo about nori. he shows absolutely zero interest in it. i've tried several different ones, not a single one got his attention. he does love the new era feeding rings and he picks at the rocks from the time he gets up till he goes to bed. :)

chris, i bet he'll color up quickly. mine was dull for a day or two and i think it was just stress. he went from dull to deep purple almost overnight.

:) Fish can be funny that way sometimes, as long as he is eating something you should be good. Give him a variety, and he should start to take different things. They love to pick, the New Era rings are great, to. Once he is in your main tank and see's other fish eat Nori he will start then, doesn't help now. Give him what he eats and add a little to that every day.
I'm sure he will do great.

I'm going to pick up some of those New Era feeding rings. He ate some mysis this morning, and I've seen him picking at the floor of the QT (which doesn't have any algae growth - go figure). I put a small chunk of LR in the QT as well, but haven't seen him pick at it yet. Not going to bother with nori while he's in QT -- he'll figure it out (or not) once he gets to the DT.

I'm going with the TTM + Prazi QT method for my new African Squaretail tang from DD (same genus as the Kole). She's a tiny little thing (2") and hasn't figured out the nori clip thing yet but is eating NLS pellets and frozen foods now (emerald cuisine by Sally's). She does try to graze on any little algae that grows on the PVC fittings in her QT so maybe I can try one of the New Era rings you guys are talking about for her to graze on.

he's been in my tank several months now and he eats everything i throw in there. he absolutely LOVE mysis and formula 2. he picks at the sand a lot, as well as the rocks.

i really like those. they don't fall apart when they get saturated. all 4 of my wrasses go crazy for them, too. when it gets small enough to drop from the suction cup, the hermits come out of nowhere and smother it. whatever is left, i hand feed to my brittle star.

Aren't fish weird! :)

Do you have any other nori eaters? Perhaps he just needs a trainer?

my wrasses all go for the nori, especially the red velvet fairy wrasse. he will tear chunks of it off. meanwhile, the tang is just cruising around, wondering why everybody is gathered in one spot. LOL

Quick update - I'm happy to report that my Kole "graduated" to the DT this morning! He's already put my female Ocellaris in her place, and it's amusing watching him try to figure out where everyone's territories lie. :D

The New Era feeding rings were an absolute godsend. Using them allowed him to really fatten up in QT, since he was able to pick at them throughout the day. He went through two rounds of prazi, TTM and a week of observation. Never once observed any signs of disease, but it's nice to have the peace of mind.

One additional tip if one uses the feeding rings: be sure to order additional suction cup holders for TTM. I found them online (Amazon carries them as well) and ordered 5 extra. That allowed me to use a new holder for each transfer without having to worry about sterilizing them between transfers.
