what kind of warranty did you get on your rimless, bet it's not lifetime

warranty is 5 years if "on an approved support stand"

Afex how far does AGE have you keep your water from the top of the tank? 1", 2"?

just measured, the water is 1 3/4" from the top. that is stock, i didn't ask for anything custom related to that

i'm having a bit of a problem with nuisance algae, and i'm trying to get an id. since the algae is more brown it may be dinoflagellates, but it doesn't really have the "mucus" like texture that dinos generally have. any ideas on this one or am i still just having new tank issues and should wait it out?

a note here, this algae is with _zero_ feeding, my fish are in QT. for tank params, click my red house.

afex, i love the dimensions of this tank and since im moving in about six months im thinking about UPGRADING. my question is would a single 400W halide be enough to light this tank?i want to do a cube and im thinking about doing halides but i would like to only have one light. what do you think?

it should light it just fine, as long as you have a quality reflector

when i was planning my tank, and i was thinking about lighting, it was a toss up between my current T5 setup and a 400W SE MH setup in a lumenarc reflector.

lot's of tanks (mostly european :D) inspired my current configuration. in regards to my tank dimensions, it was definitely this one: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1107620

he lights his tank with a single MH bulb

If you get that algae figured out let me know I have something similar. I cooked my rocks and the "ghostly" hair algae that I had in my last tank is back. I feel like giving up. I haven't had much time to tend to my tank the past couple of weeks either so that isn't helping.

I am thinking it isn't algae at all. Not sure what dino's are. I had a small bout of cyano that lasted all of 1 week then it was gone and this stuff appeared.

i've adjusted my skimmer to skim a little wetter to see if that helps. the real crazy part is that it is staying alive even with no fish and no feeding. i might need to buy a silicate test kit to see if stuff is getting through my RO/DI

Rimless cube is the way to go. Looks amazing, its gonna be a killer tank!

thanks :D

A good phosphate reactor with GFO in in should take care of that algae. Was the rock from a previous system? It may have soaked up phosphates and / or silicates and is now leaching them back into the tank. If that is the case, it will just take a little time to use them all up. Just be sure to remove the alage as much as you can, if not, the dead alage just fuels new algae.

If you can remove the rock, scrub it with a toothbrush or other type of bristle brush.

:D

Nice setup so far. I am also looking to get an ATI PM. What bulb combo are you running, and how is the overall color.

the rock was purchased as base rock from bulk reef supply. PO4 readings have always been 0. don't have a silicate test kit unfortunately.

i like the color so far. it reminds me of the color of my old setup, which was 14k phoenix MH.

i have my bulb combo detailed here: http://www.reefiris.com/profiles/afex/tanks/1

afex, how do you like the ATI Bubble Master? If you could buy again would you stick with the ATI or go with a different skimmer?

it's great at skimming, but i'm disappointed with the knife gate valve. mine has seized up and it is a pain to adjust now. not sure if it a design flaw or if my unit is defective. i've heard other ppl have no problems with the valve, so if i'm an isolated incident then there are very few problems with this skimmer.

haven't tried that, mainly since i haven't had any issues with the amount of skimmate.

i'll have to remember that if i want to get a little more out of it :D
