afex's 135g Rimless Cube

i gave the bags about 15-30 min, closed. one thing i'm really careful about is to not pour the water into my tank. i get the animal out, but the bag water goes in the drain.

more pictures soon :D i'm currently comparing lightroom and aperture, so i've been knee-deep in photos all day

I like the look with the t5 it makes it look very modern and crips.

thanks :D

here's some more pics for the hell of it.

One of my favorite tangs. Aren't you worried about introducing other fish after the tang? Those guys can be quite nasty to newcomers. I had one that tried to bully my old emperator and met his maker as a result. No matter how much he thought he owned the tank it truly belonged to the emperator.

the tang will probably remain the largest fish in the tank.

other fish i have planned are a pair of clownfish, 3-5 anthias (probably bartlett's), and other similar sized fish.

my last addition will be a purple tang, who i've read is even more territorial, heh. so we'll have to see on that one.

one thing i've thought of is to add the anthias and purple tang at the same time in order to disrupt everybody and reset aggression.

Don't Bartlett's have a iffy track record where they all turn male regardless and the strongest kills off the others no matter what?

You are probably like "Man! this guys questions my every decision". :)

I am just throwing some ideas that you might not have thought about out there. I don't think the Bartlett's are discussed in this manner much. I found a thread about it a while back and read it.

I would like to get some anthias too. I think I will probably stick to the Lyretails. People seem to do well with those.

i'd be interested to read that thread if you can find it.

i chose bartlett's due to what i've read about their hardiness compared to other anthias species

thanks for the link! i may have to rethink my bartlett's.

in tank news, i am kinda bummed at my bubble master skimmer. i took the entire thing out to clean it and try and look at the knife valve. it was completely locked up. i could unscrew the handle and bolts, but the thread going through the riser would not move. not sure if this is a defect of some kind or what.

luckily i was able to play around with the bolts to lower the riser and hopefully skim a little wetter.

Hi Afex,

I had the same problem with my BM200. As I live in Germany, I sent it back to ATI for repairs. They managed to fix it and sent it back. After a while it started again. This time I tried to repair it myself. I got myself a thread-cutter and cut the thread of the lowering and raising screw. After that it worked fine and still working. It is a 10mm ( 0.39") screw. I hope I could help you.
I've been following your thread with great interest!
Great Thread:thumbsup:
I am also thinking about the same tank size:D

not much to report at the moment. my fish came down with a slight case of ich so i have them in my new QT tank for medication. the display tank is fishless to let the parasite die off.

i've also added a new layer of larger grade sand to allow me to have slightly higher flow. the one sps frag i have did not enjoy that experience and has some slight bleaching, but i feel it will pull through.

next thing on my list is to start my Ca/Mg dosing regime and add more corals (mainly since i will be fishless until the middle of march :D)

but to be honest, my reefiris site is taking up most of my time as well as job hunting since i was laid off in december

Just found this thread and enjoy the tech porn big time!Sorry to hear about the layoff hope you find or hustle work that provides and stimulates.May your biology be as beautiful as your design.

time for an update :D

like i said in my previous post, my fish are in QT until the middle of march for ick treatment. currently using seachem paraguard daily.

since my tank is sitting empty, i'm focusing on corals. i've added 4 new SPS corals, ordered from the diver den @ liveaquaria. a tenuis, millepora, ora birdsnest, and ora borealis.

to accomodate these new corals i've also ordered a new powerhead, a Tunze Stream 2 6105, which arrives tomorrow. was thinking about the Nanostream 6055, but decided to go bigger since the window of speeds on the 6105 should be more than enough. will be controlling the speed via my profilux controller.

Nice set up I've been following since the beginning. I see you are using some of the AquaVitro products how do you like them so far. I started using the Calcification, Eight. Four and Fuel and so far so good...

so far so good with the aquavitro line. i have noticed that the 2 that adjust pH (8.4 and balance) don't last very long. usually within a few hours my pH drops back to where it was. i think this is mostly due to lack of circulation in my apartment. i see up to a 0.2 increase if i keep my windows open.

i'll be controlling my params more continuously once i setup the balling light system (or 2part, whichever i go with)

Good luck with the ph issue if I notice something similiar I'll let you know. I checked out the reefiris site the other day and it's sweet, if I had a controller I'd definatley be on there ...

thanks! what i'm working on now is how to get you to want to be on there even without a controller :D
