If it is just a shortage then why do some areas have it worse. My Grandparent and my Mom live in San Carlos and they haven't had a single power outage. Same with some of my customers I have talked to. Yes there is a shortage but why do certain areas get shafted? It must be the transformers like Reefcherie stated. In that case it is their fault.

Not for sure. They could have been shafted on equipment themselves Speculate, do the paperwork, by all means, but you've been warned they'll drag their feet till hell freezes over.

The funny thing is, the more claims, the higher the rates. We loose, not them

Well the way the do rolling blackouts is a semi-fair way of literally rolling through the numbers should state on your PG&E bill which "grid block" you belong to, simply put when it's your turn they chop you off for a few hours, and then they pop you back on and switch to the next number.

BUT these blackouts were not rolling blackouts. At stage 1 alerts that just means "hey conserve power" warning gets tossed out, something like 7% of the capacity remaining this gets issued, at 5% a Stage 2 is called where businesses that have agreed get their power chopped first (they of course get much lower rates for agreeing to this). Finally a stage 3 alert when they're down to 1.5% of capacity left, this is when the rolling blackouts start coming, but usually only in 4 hour increments or so.

The last time there was a Stage 3 was back in that whole Enron/CA electricity extortion thing I believe. So the blackouts were not the rolling variety this week The reason why you down in San Jose area are losing out is quite frankly your stuff is messing up and PG&E keeps trying to fix it.

I was watching the news yesterday and they had a little thing on claims. Elite's details posted on the 2nd post was one thing they noted. It can't be due to heat. The other thing that they said often voids claims is that it has to be 48 hrs straight. If they got the power back up even for a minute and it went back out, your claim won't fly.

I think it's a long shot to file a claim, but your 48 hrs went by, it's worth a try.

Also saw on the news they said they will cover perishable losses, but only $100 worth.

Im sorry for your loss, but you mean to tell me you had all that invested into that tank and you didnt even have a battery backup for emergency situations. One to run Pumps inside the tank.... Even like A gas generator is about 50$ a day and you can use it to power the tank.

I would look at some options right now, since Its probably safe to say that this isnt the last heatwave "Lets Hope It Is"

Yep. I was out for 50 hours. But for 35 minutes on in the wee hours of saturday morning I had Power. So I would guess that I don't have any claim. But who cares. 25 Bucks after I spent 500$ to keep my tank and my fridge/freezer going.

I've also seen conflicting news on the 48 hour thing. Some say it's automatic... i.e. you get it without claiming. Others state you make a claim.

Thing is, the heat wsn't the root cause of the <read: overworkerd> transfomers blowing out. It's not a high heat/low heat issue, it's the equipment was pushed to the brink, PRIOR to the heat. IMO, pushing a transformer to 90%, when 70% is the norm, your looking for trouble, and your to blame. The real issue though is, what do we have, besides PG&E. We sue them, they raise rates, it's simple, and lame.

my power was out for 36 hours straight. I hooked up a power inverter to the accord and ran my filter, skimmer, one of the pumps, and a fan all from the car. No need to get a generator, use ur car! The gas was not used up incredibly because there was no acceleration or braking.

Oh man... Talk about "parting gifts" to remember Cali by, this heat wave, my electric bill, and power outages.

Good luck next summer you guys. I would definitely be investing in a generator or atleast a power inverter and some car batteries if I was still here.
