African Blue Hornets

Yep, they are still on LA. These are maricultured. I have been out of the hobby for a few years so I don't know if you can really call these hornets. They want $230.

Those are African blue steels aka African hornets.

Your's or the DFS ones were being sold before as hornets by various people even though they didn't have the true alternating color of skirts like true hornets have.

that was during the height of the hornet craze, every polyp that had a ring on the center, people were calling a hornet.

Thanks. That makes a lot of sense. I just thought these looked different than the Blue Steels. I guess they will change after they get adjusted to captivity. So the ones that I purchased are going to look closer to these vs these .

I need some opinions

I need some opinions

Well my zoas arrived today. Do these look like the same zoanthids pictured at the start of this thread? I know that it is hard to tell. I just took a few quick shots with my phone and I don't think these are the same zoas in the picture.

- There are lot more zoas in what they sent me vs what was pictured.

- These skirts are clearly brown, no green at all. I ordered my fair share of sps corals to know that they can brown out during shipping but this has never happened to me with zoas.

- There is a keds red look alike in this frag. I'm not seeing any of the zoas in the picture that I purchased. They could be in the back but it is hard to tell.

- The frag they sent me has at least 5 button palys, which I am only seeing one in the picture that I purchased

- These zoas do not appear to have any type of ring like hornets or blue steel zoas. I know that they still need to open up overnight. The pictures don't show it well but in person it is clear that there isn't any type of ring.

I've even found the zoas that they sent me yesterday that are still on their website. You can see the distinct Red polyp that is in both my picture and their picture.

I called them yesterday and brought up the fact that they sent me the wrong zoas. I sent them the pictures and was stunned when they told me that they look like the blue hornets that I purchased. They did say to wait a couple of days and take a better picture. So, I'll do that before I explode. Sorry if this post is out of context. I just purchased a $225 coral and they sent me a $40 corals, along with insulting my intelligence.

In my opinion Live Aquaria has gone extremely down hill since Petco acquired them. I purchased a Pink Margin wrasse about 2 months ago and have received 3 Pyleis over the course of that time period instead. The last two, I took pictures of the wrasse mislabeled in the bag. I still have yet to receive the correct fish. They're sending out another tomorrow.

Wow. That is very disappointing. I have always had good luck with them in the past but I have been out of the hobby for a little while. I didn't even realized that petco bought them but it all makes more sense now.

I have NOT bought anything from LiveAquaria since being acquired by Petco, due to possible instances like this.

Am I the only one who noticed that the photo is on a large disk not a rock? Was that picture supposed to be WYSIWYG? I never saw the original listing for it. If so that alone should be enough to get your refund.

Well the good news is that after I pointed out that the coral they sent me is still on their site, they refunded my money. There are some other zoas that I want but I am not orderin from them again. Looks like I will play a visit to my favorite LFS.
