no updated pictures yet. it moved to the corner of my 60 gallon, essentially right behind the sea swirl nozzle. so now through out the day it is periodically squished as the nozzle presses it into the glass. does not seem to mind. color is unchanged, size has possibly increased but has remained super tight mouthed and inflated.

happy to report another one of our anemone forum users picked up the other ritteri pictured above and reported its doing very well also!

Hi Jordan,

I hope I am wrong, but I have seen mags with completely bleached tentacles that still had their bright red bases. That makes me think that the base will likely darken, but not ever get to the bright red you are hoping for. OTOH, you might be able to get it to color up a little better than it normally would by mixing in some cyclop-eez to you feeding regimen.

thanks phil, i sort of lost my optimism for the deep red base once i took the anemone home. but, its a healthy magnifica and still could turn out pretty nice once its regained its color. and then a good candidate for cutting....

Beautiful! Do you know where in Africa the shipment originated? I have been diving off Zanzibar in east africa and saw lots of nice ones. I can go back and look at my pix tonight.

IMO the Mag collected out of the red sea are the most colorful (red base). I havent seen a red base come out of the Tahiti region, where most mags are collected.

Tony; I'm not sure about your information. I think most mags come from the Philippines / SE Asia. However maybe things have changed and you might have newer info.

I will say this - I have been to Tahiti twice and the only mags I have seen there look exactly like the ones that are the subject of this thread (red base, brown tentacles with white tips). There are a TON of them there, but I have only seen this particular color morph.

Not to change the subject too much but isn't that an allardi clown? I don't believe they are supposed to be a natural host species for H. Magnifica. Intersting

Jordan, that is correct.

African mags usually look like that and color up if not badly bleached. The problem with the completely bleached ones is that moving it from one system to another can be too much stress. They are gorgeous!

So as marina said not much chance of survival. Best to leave it at the store so it can recover in that system.

In the region of africa there are many clowns, allardi chrysogaster madagascar. Saddlebacks im guess they make use of mags cause they are pretty common. Most of them do or mertens
