So Monday Kase stopped over and checked out my tank and then after I went to check out Kase's system and was blown away at the collection of corals he had and the colors of some of his stuff is just amazing. So we starting talking about some of the chalices and acans I have and how the acans and chalices looked like they were getting to much flow and light. So Tuesday I did a water change on my tank and thought hmm... what if I set up the 18 gal I have and use some lower lighting how would they look so.....
here it is let me know what you think...
The tank is an 18 gallon all glass, running a whisper 40/60 filter with carbon and the lighting is 2x30 watt actinic bulbs...
Heres some pics I took:

hmmm Ok id like that one and that one and that one over there... how long have they been in there?

rick I put them in on tuesday afternoon. My avatar is one of them but pic was taken in my 90 gal. the same coral in this other tank is starting to show a rainbow assortment of colors...where as in the 90 it was just hot pink and black...

Looks cool. That red chalice looks like an mummy tomb, thats some wierd growth -but mad cool.Thats a nice setup you got going,Is the smaller red chalice a red watermelon?
Do you directly feed any of the acan or chalices?

I have noticed a rainbow acan I have loses its vibrance in bright light and not directly fed. Its seems to look alot better shaded and fed often and grows more rapidly.I got a single chalice about ready to frag (bazooka joe) grows slower if I dont feed it directly and loses color, fades from a reddish to pinkish.Fed it grew from about 4-5 eye to 10-11 eyes since christmas.

I just started feeding them again I could never get them to eat in the 90 plus everytime I put food on them the fish would come and steal it. They also are more open now then before they would never open up most likely due to the amount of flow in the 90. I think I have somewhere around 3200 gph of flow with the return pump and the 2 K3's(the return pump feeds 2 loc-line eductors).

Thanks everyone!!!!!
Mel, you gotta see the chalice I got from you. It starting to get yellow highlights mixed in it........

Hmmm... Maybe describe it as peach with strawberry eyes, apple rim and plum ring. Then you could call it the Fruit Salad chalice. :D

Looks very nice whatever it is.

Henry corals look very happy. I am amaze at how you get your sps to color up. Maybe one day i can steal some of you sps skills.

Kase, no stealing necessary.. When you get the 75 set up i'll come over and we can figure out what needs to be done....

Well got the skimmer hooked up and has been running since saturday and is working good. The skimmer is a Won Bros. CU-75 and am running a maxi-jet 1200 for the pump. Things are looking real good.......
