AGA overflows

I'm just setting up my new 180 and think I know the answer to this question....

The two holes drilled in the overflow, one is a 1", the other is a 3/4" -- which is for the return? I'm assuming the 3/4" is for the return and the 1" is for the standpipes?

My old tank had only one return - what's the best way to split from my Poseidon T4 to go to both returns? Split at the pump? Split higher up? Is there an optimum place / distance to split it?

Thanks~

Kat

The large holes are for the drains; the small holes for the returns to the tank.

For a split, I purchased a "Y" connector from Marine Depot (Dummy Depot didn't have them.) The "Y" connector used in conjunction with the spa flex hose allows the pump to rest off the bottom of the sump. This completely removes any noise from vibrations. I actually stumbled upon this by accident; it was supposed to be a temporary setup.

Here is a picture of the pump about three inches from the bottom of the sump.

I took my AGA Megaflow and used both holes as drains and it is awesome.

I have a 90 gallon with both holes as drains and I have a return over the back on each end of the tank plumbed to a Mag24. I wouldnt have done it a different way.

The 3/4 should be the return and the 1' the drain. I actually used all 4 as drains and just bring the return over the top of the tank.

Thanks everyone! that answered a lot of questions. I've been thinking about a SCWD but my hubby likes the neat, clean look of nothing hanging over the back, so we'll see....

Thats the way I am but it would not be ugly as he thinks.

If I would have thought this out better before gluing the pvc, the largest drain wouldnt have cross over top of the smaller drain.

But I plan on redoing the plumbing and changing that along with putting the pump outside of the sump instead of being internal.

With that said, I will be adding a 1" SWCD in the return instead of a T to each side of the tank

With such a pump I had to bring the durso way up so it wouldnt make loud flushing sounds...the water level was just about above the slots in the overflow so fish were jumping...that made me make this cover

and I pulled out one circle tab in the overflow on the left side because protein matter was starting to build up on the water surface until I took that tab out on the left.
