AGA92 Corner Reef Tank Build

That's a lot of really nice stuff. I really like that Purple Acro in the 2nd picture. The name game isn't a big deal depending on the prices they're attempting to charge. I only worry about names/lineage on certain corals... primarily my chalices.

If you guys end up with a Scoly, I know a certain female reefer who will be EXTREMELY jealous.

Slight algae issue with the tank... :strange:

Wow, that's insane... sorry to see you're going through that. Do you have any idea what the culprit could be?

Over feeding, missing a monthly water change, and/or needing to dial in the skimmer...

Our Nitrate and Phosphate tests expired so I didn't even bother checking those parameters.

We've cut feeding down to once a day, did a 30% water change, and have dialed in the skimmer and I clean the neck/cup every other day.

Every time we look at the tank the Fox Face is either chomping down on the GHA or is hanging out with the clowns by their anemone.

We were/are a bit worried about it being so close to the anemone, but it seems to know the safe distance. We wonder if maybe it thinks they are Fox Faces or that it's a Clown....or maybe it is just envious of their cool "house". :)

New test kits should be here next week and then I'm going to start dosing with vodka.

The chaeto is growing like mad though.

dont worry. By tomorrow the foxface will have eaten it all ;)
Not that fast but we notice it is getting shorter. :)

He hasn't shown much interest in the bubble algae yet, but the GHA is probably easier to eat and/or more tasty.

We aren't adding any algae except for a small pinch of Formula 2 flakes every other day until it has eaten all of the algae in the tank! "You can't have seconds until you finish what's on your plate!"

The Fox Face Rabbitfish who thinks it's a clown fish, either that or it thinks that the clowns are other Foxfaces. We get a little worried with it so close to the anemone though. It is still pretty skittish and turns brown and hides whenever we approach the aquarium.

It has been eating the algae in the tank but it still has a lot of work to do. Hopefully soon it will have one or two tangs and more snails to help with the job.

Foxface Stung?

Foxface Stung?

We aren't sure if our Foxface got stung by the anemone today or not, but it has a small dark brown spot on one side of its body that doesn't seem to be going away like its modelling when stressed does when it feels comfortable again.

We noticed just before lights out so we were unable to get a picture, I'll post one tomorrow if the spot is still there.

It just showed up today, so we don't think it is a "One Spot" Foxface...

This is the best picture we could get before the lights went off...

Wow Thats some preety crazy GHA you got there!
From what I've read vodca dosing might be the right thing to beat that gha fast.
Keep us posted Chris!

Just waiting for the NO3 and PO4 test kits I ordered from mops.ca...they should be here by the end of the week.

I have the bottle of vodka waiting. :D

Also got a video in the event that it is easier to see that way.

It looks like the dot has a white center. Could it be ich?

Received the new Nitrate (NO3) and Phosphate (PO4) test kits today; Salifert.

Both produced negligible readings, ~0 ppm so I retested, still negligible.

Knowing that something has to be feeding the algae (see pics above), I decided to start dosing with vodka anyway.

Vodka Dosing...Distilled!
http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-08/nftt/index.php

Using the above article as reference, I have come up with the following:

Aquarium (92-30%) = 64.4
Sump (24"x13"x6") = 8.1
Refugium (12"^3-30%) = 5.25
Net Water Volume (NWV) = 77.75

NWV for dosing calculations = 75

The starting dosage is 0.1 ml of vodka per 25 gallons (~100 liters) NWV daily continued for three days or 0.3 ml for our system. I am dosing 1/2 a dose twice a day.

Day 1 - AM - 0.15ml
Day 1 - PM - 0.15ml

The skimmer is running, lots of turbulence at the surface of the water, and fans blowing across the surface so there should be good gas exchange.

I will retest the NO3 and PO4 tomorrow.

If they stay at ~0 ppm, I will maintain the minimum dose of 0.3ml per day. Hopefully there will be a visible change in the algae to give positive results to dosing with vodka.

Update on the Foxface

Update on the Foxface

The spot seems to be going away, at least it's lighter in colour today. Not sure what happened but I'm glad it doesn't appear to be serious.

Eggs and Skimmer Pumps

Eggs and Skimmer Pumps

We discovered the other day that our Tomato Clowns laid eggs!

We also noticed that the Cerith Snails have laid two more batches as well:

We haven't looked at the tank much at night but the cheesy seventies music kinda gives things away... ;)

On an unhappier note, we came home last night to a grinding noise coming from the stand. I looked in and the skimmer wasn't moving water so I unplugged the pump and had a look to see if anything was caught in it or whatever. When I plugged it back in it didn't even turn on. Tonight I'm going to pull it out and take it apart to see if I can figure out why it isn't working, but I've also e-mailed Jeff @ LifeReef to find out what GPH I'll need for a replacement.

I didn't put the 0.3ml of Vodka in today as we don't have a skimmer running right now, I don't want to risk starving the fish of oxygen.
