Yes the rubble goes almost all the way to the top. The pipe running down the center is the drain from the overflow. It dumps under the grate which supports the rubble. The water then flows through the rubble and spills over a slit at the top into the baffle chambers.

so the rubble working sort of like fluidizer with LR inside?
do use any light for the rubble? [/B][/QUOTE]

The idea of the rubble tower was modeled around a cryptic zone. There is no light and the tower is made of black and smoked acrylic. The rubble, while still serving the purpose of nitrification and denitrification, mainly serves as substrate for sponges and other cryptic zone life to attach to.

I like this idea. I might try it with my external overflows if noise proves to be a problem. Or should the added weight be a concern since they're, well, external? :D

BTW, I got that Spactra light after we chatted about it. I'm sticking with 250W IC ballasts for now.

Thanks,
Paul

Ed-

Sorry I missed you. Aaron and I were hitting up all the LFS all day anyway so I was not around. Def have a lot of new livestock in there. Will be updating the thread in the next week or so.

Well like reefs its all about what level you want to take it. I went with the ADA tank which was not cheap. The custom Eucalyptus wood stand also cost a grip but really make the setup look legit.

The one thing that surprised me about FW planted is how complex the water chemistry is. If you get it wrong, it will not take long before it looks and smells like a swamp!
