Nice tank!

How long do you plan on keeping the deer net in place?

Since I love rare wrasses and clowns, I will have it on permanently. Last weekend I fabricated an aluminum frame which holds the netting. It turned out really nice and does not mess with the look. The netting is made of mono filament so it is really thin. No noticeable shading. I am confident PAR readings would probably hardly change.

How is your skimmer be feed? can not seem to make out where the inlet hose is coming from

There is a tee in the return line which feeds the UV. The output of the UV feeds into the skimmer. You can see the black tubing running into the skimmer:

How many overflow drains on your tank? I'm trying to picture it as well. :)

So overflow, UV, skimmer then sump/rock tower?

I believe the skimmer feed is a "T" off the return pump, then UV, skimmer, then skimmer dumps into sump.

BTW Agent I just ordered my AGE tank today! :D Should be here by Thanksgiving if all goes wel.

I missed that part. Thanks.

Yes this is correct. Another tee goes to the chiller which connects to one of the returns. Yet another goes straight to the other return line.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :celeb1: :celeb2: :celeb3: There is nothing like buying NEW! Looking forward to seeing your build thread! Let me know if there is anything I can do to help with your design.

Congrats and let me know if you need help moving it. I'm just a shot down I-94 from you and I'm always looking for an excuse to get over to A2. ;)

BTW - What's the size of the tank?

is that a wide band clown? nice fish

bryan

Sure is...I have two but unfortunately they have not shown much interest in pairing up. Most likely because they are both female. Guess these Australian's don't know about CA marriage laws.

Thanks Agent! This has been in the works a while (early this year actually), and after a move and finalizing everything the ball is finally rolling  Much of my system has been inspired by your tank! I've never bought a nice new tank before, so this should be awesome... I'm sooo excited!

:eek1: WOW, fantastic clowns!!! I love the pics where the little leuk is dwarfed by the Latz, and especially the chromis...makes the chromis look like Jaws.

Thanks Oldtimer! I think well be ok, but I'll give you a shout if not! Thats one of the beauties of AGE tanks...since the bottoms are made of PVC they're much lighter than the same size tank with a glass bottom. Feel free to come over to A2 and hang anytime though! I tend to hit the micro-breweries quite frequently. :spin2:

The tank is ~185 gal, 48"L x 36"W x 24.5"H.... I like to think of it as a mini version of Agents tank.

PVC bottom is lighter but not by much! This is still going to be quite heavy. What is the glass thickness? probably 4 people needed to move.

Dimensions sound great! Do you have the blueprint Vizio from them yet or have you made your own sketch? Are you planning closed loop? Outside or inside overflows?

Tank Netting

Tank Netting

Shot a few current pics of the tank. Wanted to show the custom framing for the netting.

The frame is comprised of two strips of aluminum channel which fit snugly right over the 3/4" glass.

Aluminum Channel

a strip of 3M automotive double stick tape runs over the top of the channel. I use this product because it is super sticky and much more weather proof than other brands.

3M Automotive Double Sided Tape

<img src=http://www.rpmcat.com/images/T55-06384.jpg>

The netting was stretched over the tape and then a final strip of aluminum was placed on top of that and all were pressed together.

The Final Product
Finally everything was hit up with a few coats of automotive primer, paint, and clear. The paint color is a black metallic which matches the Giesemann Spectra fixture.

I made of rough sketch on my own, but the design is very simple. I should be getting the drawing from them within a week or two to give the final OK.

On this tank I'm not going with any CLs, it was in the mix, but I opted out. Overflows will be internal, centered on back wall (2 holes in OF, one 1" drain, one 3/4" return). I will rely on Vortechs, Tunzes, Waveboxes and/or a combo of all to supply flow.

I wanted to keep everything as simple and "moveable" as possible - Actually I almost took a hiatus from the hobby for a bit, but sat in front of my (existing) tank just miserable knowing that I was even contemplating selling off my coral - some of which I've had 4+ years. I couldn't live without a tank at this point, and I couldn't muster up and sell off my live stock. So initially I was thinking Nano-Cube of some sort, then a little bigger, then I figuired if I'm going to stay in get what I want, thats still feasible to move (I know I will within 5 years). So...I've settled on a "simple" AGE rimless build :D.

At the latest delivery the tank will be here before December 17th, but I was told to expect it before Thanksgiving. I'll have a thread going by X-mas this year.

That screen mesh is great!!! I've seen people make a "screen top" with a frame all the way around (spline and all), but I really like how you did yours there....I think you gave me another great idea to implement!

Per those pics it appears that the aluminum channel sits snug on the sides (not front and back), tape on top to hold mesh in place, and there is a piece of angle aluminum on top of that? It also looks like there is a piece running down the center, perhaps to keep the mesh taught above the water line?

I would have suggested possibly considering a built in surge in your overflow but that can be tricky with the rimless. I will definitely suggest having them router the overflow teeth a little longer than standard and give yourself a little more room at the top. Mine is a little too close for comfort....especially as I am about 10 miles from a fault line!

Yes this is exactly right but its just a flat piece of aluminum on the top and not an angle piece. The flat piece has a small lip which hides the tape. Worked out pretty well and it is easy to remove in case I need to get in. The strip in the middle prevents the net from dipping into the water. Despite the fact the net is pulled taught, sometimes the wave action of the water would catch it and the surface tension would pull the net down on the water.

Wow....looks like I missed a lot!

I think you started the build like five years ago, Erik. There's no way it looks that nice in just a few weeks...lol.

Aaron stopped by last night and said you're a perfectionist. I told him you actually spent about an hour picking the individual rubbles from my shop and we just kinda stop and stare at each and shake our heads....

Just out of curiosity...how late and how often did you stay up late at night aquascaping? lo

What a bad-*** tank...I am so jealous.

Nice screen. I plan to screen my tank as well. This was always a concern of mine with the rimless design - difficult to do w/o taking away from the clean lines of a rimless tank, but yours is well executed and looks great.

stunreefer - Nice dimensions. I love the depth. Seems like that will be a manageable tank to move with just a few helpers. My 240 is 6 ft long and weighed in around 600 lbs so it took 6 of us. Great choice with AGE. If only they had more reasonble prices. I decided against the for that reason along with the fact that the PVC bottom is more of a nice to have if you're running a closed loop, but otherwise it's tough for me to justify the added expense. I'm very pleased with Miracles work. Maybe you'll have to have a little microbrew party with your tank when it's up and running. I'm good for a 6 pack of a tasty local stout or ale. ;)
